Transfer restriction extended to 12 months

From 2 October 2026, the rules on changing education providers have tightened.

✅ Until 30 June 2027, you generally need to complete at least 12 months of your main course before you can transfer to another provider. The previous requirement was 6 months.
✅ From 1 July 2027, the requirement goes back to 6 months.
✅ If you started your course between 6 and 12 months ago, you may now need to wait until you reach 12 months.

You may still be able to transfer earlier if:
• your current provider agrees to release you
• your provider or course is no longer registered
• your government sponsor supports the change in writing

This is a temporary measure ahead of visa changes planned for mid-2027. Under those changes, students will need a new student visa before switching providers.
