👨‍👩‍👧 Join the Swinburne BabyLab for a PhD in Child Development!
At the Swinburne Babylab, we study development from infancy through early childhood, involving infants, preschoolers, and their parents.
Applications are now open for the October 2025 PhD Scholarship round (closing 7 October 2025).
Current projects focus on:
• Children’s and parents’ interactions with technology (touchscreens, VR, robots, and AI)
• An ARC-funded project on children’s gamble-play culture: https://dataportal.arc.gov.au/NCGP/Web/Grant/Grant/DP250103014
We welcome PhD applicants interested in these areas as well as those with broader interests in cognitive development, social development, and developmental cognitive neuroscience.
Methods & Approaches
Depending on the project, PhD students may use:
• Behavioural tasks
• Monitor-based eye-tracking
• Head-mounted eye-tracking
• High-density EEG
• Potentially MEG and fMRI
Funding & Support
• Swinburne University of Technology offers full scholarships (tuition + stipend) on a competitive basis. RTP stipend: AUD $34,700 per annum (2025 rate).
• The children’s gamble-play culture project is supported by an ARC grant. The PhD student working on this project would be funded by the grant at AUD $35,886 per annum (2025 rate, indexed).
