Double celebrations last week for REC old scholar and Adelaide Giants baseballer Drew Davies. First the Giants took home the Claxton Shield, then to top it off Drew won the ABL Rookie of the Year award.

Exciting news for Noah Miller who graduated from REC in 2022.

Noah has been accepted into the highly competitive Adelaide Symphony Orchestra Fellowship (traineeship) program this year.

Throughout the traineeship he will play with the A*O orchestra, attend workshops/lessons and the traineeship culminates in an audition to be placed on the A*O casual performers list.

The Fellowship is only in its second year and he is the first percussionist to be enrolled in it.

Congratulations, Noah!

Congratulations to REC old scholar Hannah Gabel (2023) who has been accepted into the Elevate program for her tertiary studies. The program is a STEM scholarship granting up to $30,000 for a maximum of three years for undergraduate studies. It aims to increase diversity in STEM and address Australia’s growing science and defence workforce needs amid the current STEM skills shortage.

After taking a gap year, Hannah is studying a double degree at Flinders University: a Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental) and Bachelor of Science (Environmental Science).

Hannah recently thanked her teacher Mr Eng Chuah for being such a positive part of her STEM experience at REC.

Great achievement for Reynella East College old scholar and former Sports Academy student Lachlan! Lachlan has been selected to represent the Australian national basketball team and will play at the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers in Thailand on 21 and 24 of November.

Congratulations to Lachlan Olbrich on his selection to the Australian Boomers team! The West Adelaide Bearcats NBL1 2023 Champion, two-time Frank Angove Medalist, and Southern Tigers Junior will represent the Australian Boomers at the FIBA Asia Cup qualifying tournament in Thailand on November 21 and 24.

In Week 7, Reynella East High School alumni and District Court judge Michelle Sutcliffe took time out of her busy schedule to speak to our Stage 2 Legal Studies class. Graduating in the early 90s, we reconnected with Judge Sutcliffe on a Legal Studies excursion earlier this year, when coincidentally sitting in on a sentencing she presided over.

This term, the Year 12s are working on their Inquiry, where they investigate a current Australian legal issue and evaluate the possible solutions or outcomes. Judge Sutcliffe provided some valuable insights with her highly experienced and knowledgeable perspective on the broad range of topics being explored, as well her experiences in the legal system in general. The Year 12s, and their teacher Miss McKay, were grateful for Judge Sutcliffe’s time, and the new ideas she provided for their Inquiry topics.
