Student voice should become student action, and that's what Trail Blazers is all about!

Students understand more than their survey results. They understand the hallways, classrooms and conversations behind them.

Trail Blazers is a program we developed that brings student leaders together to unpack their school’s Resilience Survey data, identify strengths and challenges, and develop practical ideas for positive change.

By the end of the day, they’re ready to present their ideas to school leadership and help bring them to life.

This is what happens when young people are trusted to help shape their school community!

We’d write a caption, but the screams of excitement really say it all. 😂

This is what play, connection and belonging sounded like when our team took on Bayswater West Primary School!

Today was Schools Tree Day, with National Tree Day taking place this Sunday 26 July.

Coordinated nationally by Planet Ark, it’s an opportunity for schools, families and communities across Australia to get outside and care for the natural world around them.

Through PLAY WILD, Year 5 and 6 students learn to lead nature-based activities for younger students. Along the way, they build confidence, responsibility and stronger connections with each other and their environment.

This National Tree Day, we’re celebrating every school giving young people the opportunity to get involved and take the lead!

New term! This often looks like fresh notebooks, fast filling calendars, and future planning!

But before everything picks up speed again, it’s worth checking in on how those around you are feeling. (Young people and 'grown ups' alike!)

Not just how academic outcomes are tracking or whether young people are managing their homework.

But whether those around you are feel connected, supported and like they belong.

Questions like:
~What’s felt good this year?
~What’s been harder than expected?
~Who do you feel you can talk to?
~What would make the rest of the year feel better?

Give people a little of your time, curiosity and the space to answer honestly.
Sometimes the first and most important thing we should do at the halfway point is listen.

They’re big numbers, and we're proud of them. But behind every one is a young person. A young person with a story, a school community seeking to understand, and an opportunity to create meaningful change.

At Resilient Youth Australia, we know that better data leads to better conversations, along with better support and stronger outcomes for young people.

And after more than one million student voices, one thing remains clear: listening to young people matters.

The last day of term is here!

For students, educators and families, use this time to rest, reset and reconnect when you can.

Make some space for the nervous system to exhale a little.

Resilience is not about pushing through endlessly. We've got to know when to take a step back and recover too.

Wishing school communities everywhere a restful term break from all of us at Resilient Youth Australia

With our TRAIL BLAZERS program, students lead the change.

In one day, your students dig into their own Resilience Survey data, work out what their school community needs, and design real strategies to lift wellbeing then pitch their ideas straight to the Principal.

How are Australia's children and young people really doing?

Each year, our surveys reach more than 800 schools across every state and territory - making them one of the most current and representative indicators of student wellbeing in Australia.

Drawing on data from the Student Resilience Survey, the team at Adelaide University brings these insights together in the State of the Nation Report. This is a powerful snapshot of how children and young people across the country are tracking.
