🐝 We’ve been buzzing with excitement at kinder! 🍯

Our little learners were lucky enough to welcome Holly from Holly’s Backyard Bees for a very special bee incursion — and what a buzz it was!

Holly brought along her small hive, home to around 2,000–3,000 busy little bees, and the children got to discover what life is really like inside a hive. 🐝

We learnt about the Queen Bee 👑, the busy worker bees, how bees collect nectar and pollen, and the amazing process of turning nectar into honey. We even discovered that without bees, we wouldn’t have many of the delicious foods we love — including strawberries, watermelon, apples, oranges and even chocolate! 🍓🍉🍎🍫

The children also got to step into the shoes of a beekeeper, trying on protective veils, exploring a hive and learning how a smoker helps keep bees calm. And, of course, there was the very important job of tasting honey! 🍯😋

Most importantly, the children learnt how we can help our buzzing friends — planting flowers, providing shallow water and keeping harmful sprays away from our gardens. 🌼💧

A wonderful morning of hands-on learning, big questions, brave little beekeepers and lots of BEE-utiful discoveries! 🐝💛

🐠🦀 Marine Life Incursion at Helen Paul Kindergarten 🐚⭐

This week our children were immersed in a hands-on marine life adventure with Josh from Wildlife Xposure.

The children had the opportunity to see, touch and learn about a variety of fascinating sea creatures and marine specimens found right here in Port Phillip Bay. Through exploration, discussion and observation, they discovered some incredible facts about the underwater world.

🌟 Sea stars aren't actually fish! They move using hundreds of tiny tube feet and even have eyes at the end of their arms.

🐡 Polly the pufferfish can protect herself by inflating her body and carries a powerful defence mechanism to deter predators.

🌿 The aptly named w**d fish hides amongst seaw**d, using camouflage to blend perfectly into its surroundings.

🦀 Spider crabs have an exoskeleton on the outside of their bodies and can even regrow lost legs and claws.

🦈 The children were fascinated to learn about a Port Jackson shark egg, and how baby sharks can spend up to 12 months developing before hatching.

One of the highlights of the day was being able to safely touch and closely observe sea stars, sea urchins, spider crabs and other marine creatures. The experience sparked curiosity, thoughtful questions and wonderful conversations that continued long after the incursion ended.

A huge thank you to Josh from Wildlife Xposure for bringing the wonders of marine life into our kindergarten and inspiring our young marine biologists! 💙🌊

Meet Alinta

If you’re lucky enough to know Alinta, you quickly feel like you’ve known her forever. She is the kind of educator children come home talking about nonstop — sharing stories of their day, the adventures they’ve been on, and the special moments they’ve experienced together.

Alinta brings warmth, kindness, and a genuine love of children into everything she does. With her big, contagious laugh and calm, caring nature, she creates an environment where every child feels safe, valued, and confident to be themselves. She has a beautiful way of building strong connections, helping children feel comfortable, supported, and truly part of a little kinder family.

While we feel like we know Alinta through day-to-day kinder life, it has been incredible getting to know her on a more personal level. She is certainly a big personality, and it’s easy to see why the children adore her. We feel incredibly lucky to have her as part of our kindy team.

What an amazing day!

Our four-year-old kinder group enjoyed a fantastic excursion to McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery today.

From buddying up and hopping on a coach bus (a first for some!) to exploring incredible outdoor sculptures, the children were full of curiosity and wonder.

They learned how sculptures are created, discovered different materials and artistic styles, and even designed sculptures of their own.

After lunch, drawing time and exploring the labyrinth were the perfect way to finish a creative and adventure-filled day.

Lots of happy, tired children returned to Kinder ready for home time!

A huge thank you to our amazing teachers for organising such a special experience and to the wonderful McClelland team for hosting us.

🌸 Happy Mother’s Day 🌸

Today we celebrate all the women who nurture, guide, support and love the children in our community.

To the mums, grandmothers, stepmums, aunties, carers, foster mums, and the many special women who hold a mothering role — thank you for the care, patience, warmth and wisdom you share every day.

You help little hearts feel safe, confident and deeply loved. 💛

From all of us at Helen Paul Kindergarten, we wish you a day filled with appreciation, connection and moments just for you.

Tucked beneath the tree, our tyre swings are a much-loved part of our outdoor space — and while they look like simple play, so much learning happens here every day.

Children gather, negotiate turns, and practise patience as they learn about sharing and fairness. Friends work together to push the swing higher, building cooperation, communication, and teamwork along the way.

As the swings move, children develop balance, coordination, and confidence, learning how their bodies move through space and how to manage risk safely. Just as importantly, the tyre swings become whatever children imagine — a boat sailing the ocean, a flying adventure, or a quiet place to sit alongside a friend and chat.

These everyday moments of play help children build friendships, resilience, independence, and a strong sense of belonging within our kinder community.

Sometimes the richest learning happens in the simplest spaces. 💛

This article, printed the day before Helen Paul Kindergarten first opened, captures the beginning of something truly special. The kindergarten was built by the parents of the children who would grow up here—a true labor of love, and that same spirit lives on today. Parents who once played here now bring their own children, building a community that spans generations, with new families joining this beautiful circle every year.

Helen Paul has always had, and continues to have, a long-term focus on developing our children—through nature-based learning, intentional growth, and by allowing kids the space to simply be kids. As a community kinder, it has always brought local families together, creating lifelong friendships and a lasting sense of connection for both children and parents alike

🐢 Hi everyone! We’re Speedy and Snapper.

Lately you’ve been meeting all the amazing Kinder teachers… but we thought it was only fair that we introduced ourselves too.
After all, we’re teaching the children some pretty important things around here 😉

We help little learners practise kindness, patience and gentle hands. We spark curiosity, encourage quiet observation and remind everyone how to care for living things. It’s a big job… but someone has to do it.

Best part? Children get all the joy and learning that comes with having pets, while we keep the tank cleaning and mess right here at Kinder.

Officially part of the teaching team,
Speedy & Snapper 🐢💛

We are incredibly proud to share that Helen Paul Kindergarten has achieved an Exceeding rating across all Quality Areas and an overall Exceeding rating under the National Quality Standard (NQS) — an outstanding achievement and a significant recognition of excellence in early childhood education.

The National Quality Standard (NQS) sets the national benchmark for early childhood education and care across Australia. It evaluates how effectively services create safe, inclusive, and engaging environments where children’s learning, wellbeing, and development are supported through high-quality practice and strong relationships. An Exceeding rating recognises services that consistently go above and beyond these national standards to deliver exceptional outcomes for children.

This achievement is a direct reflection of the professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment of our teaching team and the many support staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes each day. From educators shaping meaningful learning experiences, to those ensuring the service operates smoothly and safely, this result belongs to the collective effort, expertise, and passion of the entire Helen Paul Kindergarten team.

It is a proud moment that recognises the consistency, collaboration, and high standards embedded in everyday practice — and the shared commitment of staff to providing the very best possible start for every child.
