Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the first edition of RCON's Myth vs Evidence series.

Each month, we'll explore a common misconception surrounding electrolysis and advanced skin therapies, examine what the evidence tells us, and help separate fact from fiction.

This month's question is one I hear surprisingly often...

"If you use Red LED after electrolysis, won't it make the hair grow back?"

It's an understandable question, especially since Red LED (photobiomodulation) has been used to support certain types of hair loss.

The short answer is... no.

Here's why.

Red LED can only support living hair follicles that are still capable of producing hair.

Electrolysis works very differently.

The aim of electrolysis is to permanently destroy the follicle's ability to produce another hair. Once that follicle has been successfully treated, there is simply no functioning hair-producing structure left for Red LED to stimulate.

So why use Red LED after electrolysis?

Because we're treating the skin, not the hair.

Current evidence suggests Red LED may support the skin's natural healing response by:

✔ Reducing post-treatment redness

✔ Helping manage inflammation

✔ Supporting cellular energy (ATP production)

✔ Encouraging tissue repair

✔ Improving client comfort following treatment

Healthy healing and hair growth are not the same thing.

Supporting the skin after treatment does not reverse the permanent results of successful electrolysis. It simply helps create an environment that supports normal healing.

At RCON, we believe that asking questions and examining the evidence helps us all become better practitioners.

As our profession continues to evolve, so should our understanding.
