It was our pleasure last night to celebrate 50 years of Mandurah Hockey Club. We were privileged to have so many original members in the room and it was very special sharing their stories and hearing of the passion that has gone into our club for half a century.
We shared the night with Grandparents and Grandchildren, fathers and sons and mothers and daughters. Sisters, brothers, in-laws and husbands and wives. It was obvious that our club has always been about honour, laughter, friendships and family.
We had a fabulous MC, our very own ex-Member, Frank Lawrence.
We had John Garner in the room – our very first President in 1976.
We had six Life Members in the room.
We were taken on a tour through the decades presented by Brad Johnson, Glenn Bashford, Debra Byrne and Andrew Bolger.
We inducted a brand new Life Member – congratulations Scott Hendon!
We heard stories about the {still touchy} rivalry between the Chiefs and the Braves.
We heard how instrumental MHC was in the past in pushing for a turf field and creating a team for the Perth competition.
We heard about the different locations hockey has been played in our town – Rushton Park, Allnut Street, Hall Park and then its current location.
We heard that our focus hasn’t changed in 50 years and our efforts and focus will always be weighted heavily towards our Juniors.
We even had cake.
We understand that our club is successful due to the foundations of our founding members and past committees. The current committee is honoured to continue to work hard and respect your legacy.
