Works are continuing at Reef Street, with crews making great progress. Recent works completed include driveway works, pipe repairs and preparation of the road for the new kerb and channel along the park side of Reef Street, with concrete works scheduled to commence next week.

🚧 Traffic management changes from Wednesday, 26 August:
To facilitate the next stage of works and help keep the community safe, temporary closures will be in place for footpaths and parking areas highlighted in red on the map. Alternative parking can be found along River Road.

🚶 Pedestrian access is available by following the blue line shown on the map.

These changes will be in place for 2–3 weeks, weather permitting.

Please continue to follow all onsite signage and directions from traffic control personnel when travelling through the area.

Works have kicked off at the James Kidd Oval carpark at the One Mile Sports Precinct, with the existing gravel surface being replaced with asphalt and more than 30 clearly marked parking bays being installed. The project will improve stormwater drainage across the site, helping reduce water pooling and improve access to the sports fields.

Once complete, the improved parking area will provide a more accessible and reliable space for the school and sporting community, during busy periods and wet weather.

After years of collaboration between councils, technical experts and our communities, we’re pleased to share the final outcomes of the Burnett River and Tributaries Catchment Flood Study.

The study improves our understanding of flood behaviour across the Burnett River catchment and its tributaries, supporting better planning and stronger community resilience into the future.

Did you know our community safely disposes of more than 3 tonnes of household hazardous waste at our drop off days? ♻️

That’s thousands of kilograms of paints, pesticides, oils, solvents and other hazardous items kept out of landfill and our environment.

Hazardous waste can be flammable, toxic or corrosive, so it shouldn’t go in your general waste or recycling bin or down the drain. Disposing of these items the right way helps protect our waste workers, waterways, wildlife and community.

👉 If you’ve got hazardous items hanging around at home, our next free Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Day is Saturday 22 August at Bunnings, Gympie. This is your chance to clear them out safely and do your bit for our region 💚

Mary River Fishing Closure 🚫🎣

To protect the endangered Mary River Cod, fishing in the Mary River and its adjoining waterways (upstream of its junction with Six Mile Creek at the creek's northern bank) is prohibited between 1 August and 31 October.

This is to support this vulnerable species through its breeding season.

Fishing is still allowed within Borumba Dam, Baroon Pocket Dam, and Lake MacDonald during this period.
