As Christian parents, we have the incredible privilege of shaping not only our children’s minds, but also their hearts.

While reading, writing and maths are important, our greatest hope is that our children would grow to know and love God. Here are five simple ways to keep Him at the centre of learning.

🌿 1. Start with God’s Word

Before opening a workbook or beginning a lesson, spend a few minutes in Scripture together. A single verse or short Bible story can set the tone for the day and remind us that true wisdom comes from God.

🌿 2. Look for God in Creation

Creation is one of our greatest classrooms. Whether it’s a bird, a flower or a spider’s web, the natural world gives us countless opportunities to pause, wonder, and point our children to the Creator.

🌿 3. Make Learning Meaningful

Every subject can reveal something about God. Reading helps us engage with His Word, maths reveals order and design, and science and history help us better understand the world He created and His work throughout it.

🌿 4. Pray Together

Invite God into your learning day. Pray before a difficult task, thank Him for new discoveries, and ask Him for wisdom, patience and joyful hearts. These small moments teach children that God cares about every part of their lives.

🌿 5. Live It Out

Perhaps the most powerful lesson our children will ever learn is the one they see us living. They watch how we respond, how we love others, and how we trust God. Faith isn’t just taught—it’s caught.

None of us will do this perfectly, but by God’s grace we can faithfully point our children towards Him in the everyday moments.

✨ Which of these comes most naturally in your family? I’d love to hear in the comments!

Behind every resource is an idea that starts with a simple question:

“How can we help children know God more deeply through their learning?”

As both a teacher and a mum, I’ve spent years thinking about education—not just what children need to learn, but why they’re learning it.

The resources I’m creating for Wattle & Word are being shaped by two things that matter deeply to me: a love for God’s Word and a love for helping children learn.

I’m currently working on a memory verse colouring book, a Bible-based literacy unit, and a nature-inspired maths unit. Each one is being thoughtfully designed to help families weave faith naturally into everyday learning.

As a teacher, I know that children learn best when they’re engaged, curious, and able to make meaningful connections. As a Christian, I believe some of the most meaningful connections we can help children make are those that point them towards God.

I don’t believe learning and faith need to exist in separate boxes.

Literacy can help children engage with God’s Word.
Nature study can inspire wonder at His creation.
Mathematics can reveal order, patterns, and design.

Every subject provides an opportunity to learn something about the world God made and the God who made it.

Right now, many of these resources exist as rough notes, drafts, and ideas scattered across notebooks and planning pages. But I’m excited to slowly bring them to life and share them with other families who share a similar vision for their children.

Thank you for being here at the very beginning of this journey. 🌿

As both a teacher and a mum, I know just how much pressure parents can feel when it comes to their children’s education and upbringing.

We want our children to learn, grow, and thrive. We want them to be kind, capable, resilient, and prepared for the future. But more than anything, I think many Christian parents share a deeper hope:

That our children would know God.

That they would love His Word.

That they would walk with Him long after they leave our homes.

It’s easy to become focused on reading levels, maths facts, extracurricular activities, and all the other things that fill our days. Those things matter, but they aren’t the whole picture.

The truth is that discipleship often happens in the ordinary moments.

It’s reading a Bible story together before bed.
It’s stopping to admire a flower and praising the God who created it.
It’s answering hard questions.
It’s praying together.
It’s modelling faithfulness in our own lives.

As a teacher, I’ve seen that children learn far more from what is consistently lived out than from what is occasionally taught.

Proverbs 22:6 isn’t a promise of a perfect outcome. But it is a reminder that the small, faithful investments we make today matter.

So if you’re in a season of wondering whether you’re doing enough, take heart. The conversations, prayers, Bible readings, and everyday moments of faithfulness are not wasted ❤️
