This week is School Support Recognition Week, an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the incredible staff who make such an important contribution to Gunnedah High.

Our support staff are the backbone of our school community. They play a vital role in supporting our students, connecting our school with the wider community and helping everything run smoothly each and every day. While much of their work happens behind the scenes, their impact is felt across every part of the school day.

Today, we made sure our amazing staff felt appreciated, treating them to a morning tea of wraps and slices, along with a personalised gift bag.

To make it even more special, teachers stepped in to cover their duties so everyone could enjoy the morning together. This even saw Mr Monte taking a turn covering the phones in the front office!

A huge thank you to our wonderful support staff for everything you do for our school, our students and our staff. We appreciate you more than you know!

As part of promoting Agriculture at Gunnedah High School, a selection of the school’s stud Poll Dorset sheep formed part of the NSW Department of Education display at AgQuip. Agriculture and Primary Industries students from Years 9–12 participated in a roster to care for and monitor the sheep, while also speaking with members of the public and students from other schools about the school’s Agriculture programs and livestock.

Students also had the opportunity to explore AgQuip and investigate new and innovative technologies being developed for the agricultural industries they are studying. A particular highlight was the NSW Department of Primary Industries display, where students explored a range of plant and animal threats to Australia and NSW’s biosecurity. Students were able to learn more about threats including fire ants, Khapra beetle and Harrisia cactus, and the potential impacts these pests and weeds can have on agriculture and the environment.

The event also provided students with the opportunity to explore the wide range of career pathways available across the agricultural industry. Through conversations with industry representatives, visiting exhibitors and exploring different areas of the agricultural sector, students gained a greater understanding of the skills, qualifications and employment opportunities available in areas including livestock production, agribusiness, agricultural technology, biosecurity, machinery, research and natural resource management.

AgQuip provided students with a valuable opportunity to engage directly with the agricultural industry, broaden their understanding of emerging technologies and develop their awareness of biosecurity. The experience highlighted the scale and importance of agriculture to the local community and Australian economy, while helping students connect their classroom learning with real-world industries and potential future career pathways.

Celebrating our Gunnedah High students who went above and beyond this term! 🌟 Education Week is all about recognising effort, growth and the everyday wins that don't always make the headlines - and what better way to celebrate than with a well-earned rewards lunch! Students who showed up, worked hard and represented the best of Gunnedah swapped the classroom for a proper sit-down feed with mates and staff.

It's these moments - full tables, big smiles and plenty of laughs - that remind us why celebrating student effort matters. Recognition like this builds confidence, strengthens community and shows our students that hard work really does pay off.

A big thank you to the staff who organised the day and to every student who earned their seat at the table. Well deserved! 🍔🥤

NIAS Athletics Program 2026/27

The Northern Inland Academy of Sport (NIAS) is offering Athletics for the first time in several years, working alongside the North Coast Academy of Sport (NCAS) to provide athletes with access to specialist coaching and a strong regional performance environment.

The program supports athletes aged 13–19, including able-bodied and para-athletes, across track and field disciplines. Training will focus on technical development, strength and conditioning, nutrition, sports psychology, wellbeing and long-term athlete pathways.

Three intensive weekends
• Coffs Harbour: 12–13 September 2026
• Tamworth: 10–11 October 2026
• Ballina: 14–15 November 2026 (live-in camp)

The program levy is $660 and includes the three weekends, weekly strength and conditioning, nutrition and sports psychology education, plus accommodation and meals for the Ballina camp.

Applications close Sunday, 30 August 2026.

There are many ways that you can help another person while keeping yourself safe.
