What have the Preschoolers been up to?

📚 A Special Visit: We were lucky to have Mrs Sanders from Gulgong Public School join us for group time! She read the beautiful story A Place to Call Home, about bugs and insects searching for a home. The children then had the opportunity to create their very own homes for some pretend bugs. It fit perfectly with our Things That Creep and Crawl theme! Thank you, Mrs Sanders, for an excellent group time!

🧪 Tuff Tray Fun: During National Science Week, the children loved creating their very own potions! We also explored some colourful spaghetti sensory play with bugs hidden amongst spaghetti during our Things That Creep and Crawl theme.

🔤 Learning: The children have been focusing on the letter and sound ‘s’ through our PreLit program, as well as a range of fun worksheets and games. We have also been learning all about the number 8 through games and hands-on activities!

✂️ Scissor Development: Our craft table had a little makeover and was transformed into a cutting station, giving the children plenty of opportunities to practise their cutting and scissor skills.

🔬 National Science Week: The children completed a different science experiment each day, and we loved it so much that our science fun continued for two weeks!

🐛 And to finish off all our bug learning, we had an exciting Bug Show visit the Preschool room! What an amazing way to bring our learning about creepy crawlies to life!

What’s been happening in the Baby and Toddlers Room?

🐛Things That Creep and Crawl: The children have been enjoying some exciting bug themed table set-ups, including bug catching activities, bug stencils and a sensory bug tuff tray to explore!

🎨 Creative Fun: Our little ones have been getting creative with free collage and free painting in the sunshine. Allowing the children to explore, create and express themselves freely.

🏥 Following the Children’s Interests: Our home corner had a makeover and was transformed into a hospital and doctors surgery! Following the children’s interests, this has provided plenty of opportunities for imaginative play and caring for others.

🦕 Dinosaur Discovery: Following the children’s interest in dinosaurs, we created an exciting dinosaur discovery set-up for the children to explore and investigate.

🍳 Cooking: The children enjoyed cooking up their very own batch of homemade play-dough. A fun sensory experience from start to finish!

🤏 Fine Motor Development: We have also been strengthening those little hands and fingers through fine motor activities! The children explored a variety of trays filled with different items to pick up using tongs, building coordination.

So much fun, learning and discovery happening in the Baby and Toddlers Room! 🌟💛

✨ Wow! What a fabulous day at Gulgong High School’s Science Labs! 🧪🔬 🥼

Our preschool children had a wonderful time visiting the science lab at Gulgong High School as part of National Science Week!

As one of our preschool parents, Alison, is the science teacher at Gulgong High School, Chelsea and Alison worked together to organise this fantastic learning opportunity for our children.

Last week, our preschool children had an exciting time learning all about our local Emergency Services! 🚑👮

On Friday we had a visit from Gulgong Ambulance Station. Rachael, the paramedic, discussed with the children about the important role of a paramedic, took part in hands-on activities, and had the opportunity to explore the inside of an ambulance van.

We also enjoyed an excursion to Gulgong Police Station, where policemen Dan showed us around. The children learnt about how police officers help keep our community safe, toured the police station, and even had a look inside a police car!

What a fabulous week learning about emergency services in our community!

This week the excitement continues as we celebrate National Science Week! Tomorrow we’re heading to Gulgong High School’s Science Lab to watch some exciting science experiments. We can’t wait to see what we discover!

Term 3 has certainly been keeping us busy… but we wouldn’t have it any other way! 🤪💙

📚 Preschool Learning – Term 3

Term 3 has officially begun, and we’ve been very busy! 🌟

During the school holidays, the children enjoy a break from our usual preschool routine. This means no daily focus child, school readiness group time or planned learning experiences. Instead, the children have plenty of opportunities for free play, spontaneous activities and exploring their own interests.

Now that we’re into Term 3, everyone has returned refreshed and excited to learn! While we continue to value free play and child-led learning every day, we’ve also continued our School Readiness Program and introduced some exciting new learning experiences.

Here are just a few photos of what the children have been enjoying at the beginning of Term 3. We can’t wait to share more of their learning journey throughout the term! 💙

P.S. We have some very clever preschool children who are already completing kindergarten-level work! What superstars! ⭐

A few months ago, Chelsea met with Gill from Gulgong Public School to share some new and exciting ideas to further enhance our Transition to School Program. One of the ideas raised was creating a video about the school that our preschool teachers could share with the children, helping them become more familiar with the school environment and feel more confident about starting kindergarten.

A huge thank you to Gulgong Public School for bringing this idea to life and putting so much time and effort into creating the video. We can’t wait to share it with the preschool children and continue supporting them on their journey to school!

We also set time aside to follow children’s interests, recognising that meaningful learning often begins with what captures their curiosity. By observing and listening to children, we plan experiences that build on their ideas, strengths, and emerging skills.

During Term 2 educators completed Learning Stories for each child. Each term we complete a different observation, Term 3 will be a School Readiness Checklist or Group Learning Stories, depending on child’s age. Keep a look out in your emails for them! 🙂
