The video above is just a little sneak peak of the setting of our retreat in Yass over the weekend. SO very beautiful!

The whole weekend was full of synchronicities and magic moments and I've come home wth a full heart - and a full belly!!

The weekend reinforced for me the importance of being in community and carving out time for ourselves.

When we retreat together we see so many aspects of ourselves more clearly both from our own deep listening and questioning and also reflected back to us in the people we are sitting and practicing with.

The magic that happens is in the deep knowing that within the human experience of suffering we are never alone. Life happens. We all have our ups and downs and our internal narratives that hold us back.

Each of us will experience moments of suffering and often we feel alone in this or somehow a failure. When we come together we hold each other up as we learn to live in the heartache and in the turmoil. The container of the group creates a safe space as we question our internal narratives and release what is ready to shift.

Thanks to all the big hearted, brave souls that made this retreat so special. Lots of love to you all.

Maybe next time you'll be ready to be a part of the magic.💫 Classes as usual this week. See you back on the mat.

Last week was a challenge. There were lots of big emotional happenings that were both beautiful and a little brutal or brutiful to borrow Gennon Doyle's term.

These kind of weeks, especially if sleep is compromised as mine was, it's difficult not to default to negative thinking. That's really just how our brains are designed.

We favour negative thinking in a Jurassic attempt to keep up safe. Watch out for the sabre tooth tiger!!

And when we are sleep deprived our cortisol is raised so we feel more stressed and anxious anyway and more on the look out for anything that is threatening. And so the loop-de-loop of negative thinking is able to get stronger and stronger.

So reminders like this one that popped up on my meditation app this morning, are always helpful to me because it is so very easy to become bogged down in negative thinking.

We can cycle over and over through thinking that focuses only on what's hard, or what feels wrong, or which relationship is off or why nothing is working out.

This is when we need a good shake up to remind us that the only thing we have control over really is where we put our attention.

Do we want to only attend to the things that are hard or feel sh*tty or do we want to wake up to the fact that we have blessings hiding in plain site.

Today I can go outside and feel the warmth of the sun on my skin. I can see the hints of spring in the buds of the spring flowers. If I listen closely, I can hear the strong, syncopated beat of my heart. I can smell the garlic my son is frying in the kitchen. I can make plans to adventure near and far.

And if I step out from behind the negativity that wants to hang around me like a cloud, I get to see that this life is beautiful and I am lucky to be here.

Be well,

PS the meditation app I use is called Insight Timer. I rate it highly. You can listen to meditation teachers or you can set the timer function up so you have a bell ring to start and finish your meditation and add interval bells too.

There are many ways we trip ourselves up when it comes to a regular practice and the biggest one I see is people making the excuse that they lack discipline.

What I've come to realise is that discipline is a muscle you build, not something you're born with.

So, if getting to a yoga class regularly has been tough for you lately or if you're trying to build a regular practice at home, changing these three things will make a big difference.

Because consistency is where the real change happens and the magic of yoga really starts to blossom.

Firstly, stop waiting to feel motivated to do yoga.

This is why it's so important to book your yoga class for the term and make it a priority every week to go. Making excuses and giving yourself an out just makes it harder to stay consistent.

Go anyway and ask your teacher how to adjust the practice if you are tired or working with an issue.

If you want to practice regularly at home, choose a time and stick to it. 30 minutes on the mat a few times a week is better than trying to do an hour and a half and then feeling overwhelmed and not even starting.

Start small and grow!

Second, focus on how you feel after you practice.

I'm sure you've all experienced that post yoga glow! How after class somehow you feel lighter and more spacious in body, mind and spirit.

Yoga has a way of changing the way we see the world. We get a fresh perspective on things that have been bothering us. Anxiety and stress are eased.

And when we are going through something difficult, like I am at the moment with disturbed sleep, after I practice, I feel better able to cope.

This is the reason we practice, not to get thinner or change the way we look.

When we feel good on the inside, we glow. It doesn't matter what shape we are.

Third, stop aiming for perfection.

Perfection is a useless standard. Who gets to be the judge of what perfect is anyway?? You're giving your power away chasing an ideal if you don't practice because you're afraid you won't get it right.

You don't tell a toddler who is learning to walk and falls over a lot that they made a mistake and that they aren't doing it right. You encourage their attempts every time they fall down.

We should all practice this way. Be a beginner. Know that sometimes you'll make mistakes and in the mistakes is where the best learning happens.

Perfection stifles your creativity and your open mindedness. Leave it aside and just get on with it.

So go ahead and practice. Looking forward to seeing you all back on the mat soon!

The break is over! How has your home practice been going?

I hope you have managed to do a little - or a lot - over the last few weeks.

A big thanks to all of the students who came along to the winter workshop. I am very proud of them all and also very grateful for their commitment to the practice. This morning as I reflected on the workshop I thought about the saying;

" A rising tide lifts all boats"

A theme for the workshop was how our life, our attitude and the energy we cultivate has ripple effects on all those around us and these workshops are a great example of this.

The intensity they hold allows a real shift in the dynamic of the class and a lot of understanding to be generated.

This in turn feeds into what I am able to teach in classes after the workshop. The progress and development of this small group of students benefits all of you.

So once again my gratitude to them for committing to their own growth, and to yours too. I was so deep in the flow of it all that I forgot to take any photos to share!! - Next time I guess.

Looking forward to seeing you all back on the mat soon!

We are coming up to the end of Term 2 and about to go into two weeks break from classes for the winter holiday. The last class for the term is this Wednesday July 1st at 9.30 am.

It's tempting to go into hibernation mode but don't let the break stop your commitment to your practice. Use it as a challenge to see what you can do at home.

Here are my tips.

😀Choose a time, keep it consistent and manageable. eg 10 minutes each day at 7.30 am or 30 minutes 3 times a week at 6.30 pm.

🤩Set up a practice space with your gear ready to go. A corner of your lounge room will do. Choose a pretty basket or a free space on a shelf and keep your mat, belt blankets and blocks ready to go.

🤠Switch your phone off and add a timer so you're not distracted.
Know what you are going to practice so you don't spend the whole time trying to think of what to do. Check out your punchpass account for a free class that I've uploaded or print out one of the practice sequences below and choose a few poses before you begin.

😛Make it fun! If you want your practice to stick, it has to be enjoyable. Don't get weighed down in getting it right. Do it with curiosity and an open heart and mind. Think of it as a holiday at home!

Term 3 will start on Monday 20th July!! The links to register in class are below.

Have a great break. I look forward to hearing about your practice adventures when we are back in the studio together.

PS; Please confirm your registration in the Winter Workshop! We start Friday 10th July at 5.45 pm.

22/06/2026

As humans we try to avoid suffering at all costs. And in our quest to dodge any hardship, our society is becoming more and more focused on convenience often to the detriment of our health and wellbeing.

We prefer to order the takeaway dinner that lacks any nutritional value rather than take an hour to cook something wholesome. We text rather than picking up the phone to have a chat.

We live in the most comfortable time in human history and yet we are becoming more and more unhealthy. We were taught that happiness was the only goal in life and that we could get it if we had the right job and the right house in the right neighbourhood and if we kept buying the next great gadget to come along.

We were taught to shut down the uncomfortable feelings and shy away from the difficult conversations in order to avoid any discomfort for ourselves or others.

And yet many people spend their lives chasing these things and are still left feeling like there is something missing in their lives. That their lives are meaningless. And they start asking the big questions - who am I really and why am I here?

This question of why is really about our purpose in this life. What I'm beginning to understand is that our purpose is most often tied into where we find joy and how we can use that to serve others and make the world a better place.

And these lessons are often learned in the most difficult times of our life when we are deep in the throes of suffering.

Suffering teaches us not only what is truly important but also why this is so. It shows us that joy can be found in everyday moments, that we need each other to reflect our inherent goodness back to ourselves and in doing so it drives us to make the world a better place by helping ease the suffering of others.

If you're anything like me you probably have a nice long To Do List. There always seems to be something vying for our attention, our energy and our resources, so any way we can free ourselves up a little could be super helpful right?

So how about giving this a go. When you notice yourself worrying about something that is yet to come, or regretting something from your past, know that it is all working out in your favour, bless it and let it go.

Whenever you start to chase after something you think will make you happy, stop and appreciate something you can see or feel or hear or touch right now. Bless it and feel grateful you can experience it. A simple one for me is that I can turn on a tap and get fresh water, hot water even!!

If you start doubting yourself or underestimating your value and your strength, remember you are a spark of the divine and you are loved completely as you are.
