🌱As we head towards the middle of term 2, conversations around school readiness pick up speed. No doubt this is one of the biggest transitions a child will make in their lives. Early learning plays a crucial role in ensuring this transition is a positive one in hopes of a positive educational experience.

The question is, should the value of early education simply revolve around school readiness?

What about a child’s current experience? So often we can become too forward thinking we forget that they are living and experiencing life right now. Now more than ever it feels important to just stop and see the child standing right in front of us.

🌱Who are they right now?
🌱What brings them joy right now?
🌱Are the needs of today being met right now?

Not only that but with so many foundational dispositions for learning evolving in the first five years of life, should more focus be placed on supporting lifelong learning?

School isn’t for everyone. With so many diverse educational needs and preferences being squeezed into essentially the one model, how can all children excel in their areas of strength?

When we focus on developing dispositions such curiosity, resilience, persistence and problem-solving are we better preparing children for their entire future regardless of their educational experiences? Supporting children’s view of themselves as a learner can teach them that even though they may not understand something or struggle with a particular subject, they still have their own unique set of skills that will see them succeed in their own way.

Supporting children as they move into formal education is a crucial part of our role as educators. It is not the only one. Far from it. The growth and development that we support is crucial for their life right now and far beyond school.

Early education isn’t all about getting ready for big school. It’s about a child’s current and entire future experience and giving them the confidence to step into it knowing they are capable of great things.

Position Vacant – Early Childhood EDUCATOR
Certificate III or Diploma
Part-time (permanent)
16 hours per week/2 days per week – Thursday and Friday
(There would also be an opportunity for ‘relief’ work on other days during the week)

This role requires a creative and passionate Early Childhood Educator to work as an active team member in providing high quality education and care. This is a great opportunity for Early Childhood professionals to be involved with a supportive team and with like-minded educators who believe in children and the importance of Early Childhood and the value it adds to children’s lives.

The Eligible applicant must:
• Hold a Certificate III or Diploma in Early Childhood Education – (ACECQA approved qualification – https://www.acecqa.gov.au/qualifications/nqf-approved
• Hold a valid Working with Children Check
• Hold a current First Aid Training HLTAID012; CPR, Emergency Anaphylaxis and Asthma
• Hold a completed Child Protection Training – CHCPRT001 or CHCPRT025 with recent ‘refreshers’
Capabilities:
• Excellent written, computer and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a team environment, as well as being able to demonstrate initiative and have the added ability to work independently where needed
• A commitment to continuous improvement and ongoing professional learning, including to attend and contribute to Staff Meetings
• Commitment to inclusion and equity and cultural responsiveness
• Commitment to embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and perspectives into the program
• Commitment to protect and promote the right of every child to PLAY
• Commitment to promote and implement The Child Safe Standards
• Be creative, open-minded, confident and imaginative and of course, passionate about Early Childhood Education and Care.
• A professional and ethical approach to all aspects of work – complying with all regulations including the centres policies and procedures
