The research is clear 📚 reading aloud is one of the most powerful things we can do for our children.

When we read with a child, we’re doing far more than sharing a story. We’re building the foundations for language, confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Decades of research shows that children who are read to regularly:

💛 Build stronger language skills
Hearing rich varied language in books exposes children to far more words than everyday conversation alone. This growing vocabulary helps them understand, communicate and make sense of the world.

💛 Develop early literacy skills long before they learn to read
Through stories, children learn how books work – that print carries meaning, that pages turn left to right, and that stories have a beginning, middle and end. These early understandings make learning to read feel familiar and exciting.

💛 Strengthen phonological awareness
Rhymes, rhythms and playful sounds help children hear the building blocks of language.

💛 Grow their comprehension and thinking skills
Talking together about a story, predicting what might happen, wondering how a character feels, and connecting events to real life helps children develop memory, problem-solving, and higher-order thinking.

💛 Experience connection, comfort and joy
Shared reading fosters calmness, closeness, and moments of joint attention. These warm interactions support a child's sense of security and belonging.

Most importantly, children who experience positive, engaging reading moments from a young age are more likely to develop a genuine love of books - something that matters even more than early literacy skills alone.

Reading is simple, joyful, and sets children up for success in school and life.

We’re often asked what being not-for-profit really means for our families.

Simply put, it means that our purpose always comes before profit. Every dollar we make is reinvested back into our centres, to provide children with enriching and safe learning environments.

We understand how important it is for children to be in a place where they feel safe and settled. And when families need to make a change - planned or unexpected - we’re here to help make that transition easier.

We’re here to support families when it matters most – because every child deserves a Goodstart! ✨

Last Day Feels....

Over the last few weeks, it has been so overwhelming with messages, visits, gifts, phone calls, flowers and the kindness that I have received since the news I was leaving.

On Wednesday my amazing team put on a beautiful farewell afternoon tea and I would like to say from the bottom of my heart and massive thank you to all that joined us, popped in through the week and those that sent messages.

I have been extremely lucky during my time here to meet the most amazing children, families, work colleagues and educators. You have become my extended family, my own children would say to me as I stopped to chat to you up the street," who's that?" and my response was always "That's one of my families" or "that's one of my children" and they would look at each and say, "we are your family and we are your children" and roll their eyes.

To my wider GS community and my special tribe of Directors - you are my people 🫶🏼my support, my friends and you are absolutely priceless 🤍

I am finding it a little sad to say goodbye, leaving a big part of myself here in this Centre where I gave my heart and soul for the last 8 years, leaving my dream team behind some that I have worked alongside for all of that time and some that I have only shared my time with more recently but every one of them has made me a better person and I will take a little of them with me.

You will not find a more passionate and committed group of educators who will put the needs of your children or your family first to ensure the best possible outcomes. This is who they are, and they will always have that at the centre of their thoughts, ideas and their decisions. You leave your children in the best possible hands every week and I am so proud of them, their growth, their practice and them as bloody great people 🙂

So, for now, it's a see you later, I am not leaving town so I am sure I will see you around our little community at some point.

Take Care

Tahnee xx
