🔢✨ Learning through play! ✨🔢

Today we explored number blocks and number combination cards, encouraging children to investigate how numbers can be made in different ways. Through hands-on play, children matched quantities, counted objects, recognised numerals and discovered that there is often more than one way to make the same number.

Experiences like this help build a strong foundation for early maths skills while also developing problem-solving, critical thinking and confidence. Best of all, the children were having so much fun they didn’t even realise they were learning! 😊

Sensory play is so much more than just messy fun — it plays an important role in supporting children’s learning and development 🌈✨

Through activities that engage the senses, children build fine motor skills, problem solving, creativity, language, focus and emotional regulation. Sensory play also encourages children to explore, experiment and learn through hands-on experiences in a way that feels natural and exciting to them.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing some of our favourite sensory play ideas here in Family Day Care, along with the simple recipes so you can recreate them at home too 🫶

From playdough and goop to coloured rice and fizzy water, these experiences are easy to make, low cost and packed full of learning opportunities for little hands and growing minds. This week I’m sharing our playdough recipe 💛

Celebrating our little friend turning ONE today 🎉👑💛

What a special milestone to share in Family Day Care. Watching our little ones grow, learn and reach their first big birthdays is such a privilege. There were smiles, celebrations and lots of joy as we marked this very special day.

The first six months of the year are definitely all about birthdays around here… one celebration after another and we wouldn’t have it any other way! 🎂✨

Celebrating special milestones in our little learning community 🎉👑

Birthdays in family day care are more than just cake and candles… they’re about belonging, connection and celebrating each child for who they are. From wearing their special crown to sharing joyful moments with friends, these experiences help build confidence, identity and a sense of being valued.

At Little Ones Early Learning, we love creating meaningful celebrations that make every child feel seen, celebrated and proud 🤍

Easter fine motor fun 🐰🌈

Threading, posting and creating — this sweet bunny activity supports little hands as they build strength, coordination and concentration. Using colourful beads and pipe cleaners, children are encouraged to explore patterns, colours and creativity in their own unique way.

At Little Ones Early Learning, we design simple yet meaningful experiences that support development through play while keeping children engaged, confident and proud of their creations 🤍

At Little Ones Early Learning, we believe in turning simple play into meaningful learning experiences. This beautiful Easter invitation encourages children to use their imagination, creativity and problem-solving skills as they design and build a “home” for the Easter Bunny.

Through open-ended play with loose parts, children explore early construction, storytelling and social collaboration — all while having fun in a warm, nurturing environment.

Colourful hands-on learning 🌈

This vibrant sensory tray invites children to explore colour, texture and movement using sponges, tongs and jars. As children pick up, squeeze and transfer the sponge pieces, they are strengthening fine motor muscles, building hand–eye coordination and developing early sorting and problem-solving skills.

At Little Ones Early Learning, we create engaging, play-based experiences that spark curiosity and support each child’s development in a fun and meaningful way.

Scooping, pouring and exploring 🌈

Today’s sensory tray was filled with coloured pasta, funnels, jars and cereal dispensers, inviting the children to experiment with pouring, transferring and filling. Experiences like this support fine motor development, hand–eye coordination and early problem-solving, while also encouraging curiosity and independent exploration. Sensory play provides endless opportunities for children to investigate cause and effect as they watch materials move, flow and change.

A quiet, meaningful moment 💛
Today we paused to watch and listen to “I Am Me” — a gentle song about children’s rights, identity and belonging. Through music, children are supported to understand that their voices matter, they are valued, and they have the right to feel safe, respected and heard.
