🚀🌙 SPACE WEEK – MOON SAND! 🌙✨

Our little astronauts have been busy exploring the surface of the moon with our Space Week Moon Sand sensory experience! 👩‍🚀🧑‍🚀

Squishing, scooping, moulding, digging and discovering hidden stars provided plenty of opportunities for curious little hands to explore. ⭐ The soft, crumbly texture of the moon sand encouraged sensory exploration while strengthening those important little hand and finger muscles.

With astronauts, stars and plenty of imagination added to the mix, our sensory table quickly became our very own little corner of outer space! 🌌

Sometimes the best learning really is wonderfully messy. 🤍

🕷️🦗 LOOK WHAT WE FOUND! 🔍🌿

There’s never a dull moment when you’re exploring the great outdoors!

Today our little nature explorers had some very interesting visitors to investigate — a rather impressive spider 🕷️ and a BIG grasshopper! 🦗

Safely tucked inside our observation jars, we were able to get up close and have a really good look. We noticed their legs, colours, shapes and movements, sparking plenty of curiosity, conversation and questions.

These spontaneous discoveries are some of my favourite learning moments in Family Day Care. 💚 There’s no planned activity quite like finding something fascinating in your own backyard!

Nature really does provide the BEST classroom. 🌿🐞🔍

Sometimes it’s the simplest little moments that mean the most. 🥰

Tiny hands, big high fives and the beautiful connections that grow when we spend our days learning, playing, laughing and exploring together.

Being a Family Day Care educator means I get to be part of so many little moments — and I wouldn’t have it any other way. 💗

🌈🐻 Learning through patterns, colours and play! 🐻🌈

Today the children explored patterning and early mathematical thinking using colourful bear counters and string. As they carefully threaded and arranged the bears, they began noticing repeating colour sequences, predicting what might come next and discussing their ideas with friends.

Experiences like this support early numeracy skills, problem-solving, concentration, fine motor development and hand-eye coordination—all while having fun through play.

At Little Ones Early Learning, we believe the best learning happens when children are actively engaged, curious and exploring at their own pace. 💛

Today we explored number blocks and number combination cards, encouraging children to investigate how numbers can be made in different ways. Through hands-on play, children matched quantities, counted objects, recognised numerals and discovered that there is often more than one way to make the same number.

Experiences like this help build a strong foundation for early maths skills while also developing problem-solving, critical thinking and confidence. Best of all, the children were having so much fun they didn’t even realise they were learning! 😊

Sensory play is so much more than just messy fun — it plays an important role in supporting children’s learning and development 🌈✨

Through activities that engage the senses, children build fine motor skills, problem solving, creativity, language, focus and emotional regulation. Sensory play also encourages children to explore, experiment and learn through hands-on experiences in a way that feels natural and exciting to them.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing some of our favourite sensory play ideas here in Family Day Care, along with the simple recipes so you can recreate them at home too 🫶

From playdough and goop to coloured rice and fizzy water, these experiences are easy to make, low cost and packed full of learning opportunities for little hands and growing minds. This week I’m sharing our playdough recipe 💛

What a special milestone to share in Family Day Care. Watching our little ones grow, learn and reach their first big birthdays is such a privilege. There were smiles, celebrations and lots of joy as we marked this very special day.
