PBL Student of the Month - July

Congratulations to Maisy, our PBL Student of the Month for July!

Maisy has had a fantastic month, representing our school at the Zone Athletics Carnival, Hunter Dance Festival and Netball Schools Cup Gala Day. She continues to show dedication in her learning and is always kind and willing to support younger students in the playground.

It’s been a busy Education Week at Gresford Public School.

On Monday Tyler competed in the regional spelling bee making to the third round of the words before bowing out. Great effort Tyler!

On Wednesday we held our open day and book fair. Thank you to all of the parents and community members who came for lunch, observed a maths daily review, saw our public speaking representatives present, our dance group perform before enjoying a gallery walk of some of the great learning our students have engaged in this year, including a robotics display from our stage 3 students.

On Thursday Cherry, Mrs Dillon, Mrs Wood, Amanda Gardner and Max Greive were recognised at the Dungog District Community of Schools Awards Ceremony for their outstanding contributions to our school.

Today students from Hunter Mobile Pre-School joined us to enjoy a performance from Musica Viva. It was a really fun and interactive performance that was enjoyed by all.

STEAM Adventures in Term 2!

Our Kindergarten students have been having a blast exploring the force of push using Lego! They have created an exciting range of projects including a balance beam, launcher, swing, and a car. The favourite by far was the launcher – the kids loved testing how far they could send a rubber tyre from a Lego wheel flying across the room.

Meanwhile, students from Years 1 to 6 have been diving into the world of Lego robotics. Years 1 and 2 worked with the Lego WeDo kits, while Years 3 to 6 tackled the more advanced Lego Spike Prime sets. Both kits use block coding, helping students build important skills in computational thinking, teamwork, and problem solving. You can see some fantastic photos of the Year 1 and 2 creations attached.

Years 3 and 4 took their learning further by programming motors and sensors, creating robots that can interact with their environment — including avoiding obstacles and navigating mazes. Our Year 5 and 6 students are gearing up for the Hunter RoboCup Junior competition at the University of Newcastle early next term. They’ll be participating in the ‘On Stage’ Division, where they design and build performing robots – what an exciting challenge!

Looking ahead, next term’s STEAM lessons will focus on filmmaking as we prepare for our community of schools’ Rolling Hills Film Festival. We can’t wait to see the creativity shine on screen!

Yesterday we capped off our NAIDOC week celebrations with a visit from Uncle Leigh who continued our learning of Gathang language. Our students learned some colours and animals in language and practiced using their numbers with Uncle Leigh asking maths questions where the students answered in language.

Earlier in the week our senior students learned about the history of NAIDOC and created classroom displays of the numbers 1-10 in Gathang on Canva. Our K-2 students have been reading dreaming stories this week, and have loved making connections to the moral of those stories.

Today it was K-2’s turn to turn our fresh eggs into something delicious.

Pancakes were on the menu!!!

Our students, measured and combined all the ingredients before Mr Stewart cooked the pancakes for them to enjoy with their favourite toppings! Lucky we had enough for seconds!!!

Today years 3-6 made fettuccine carbonara from scratch with Mr Stewart. They made the pasta dough this morning before rolling it and cutting into fettuccine. Before recess they prepared the sauce using pancetta, parmesan and our eggs, then we cooked the fettuccine and stirred the sauce through.

It went down a treat!
