Unsung Heroes

Tucked away quietly within our families and local communities are our unsung heroes.

Family members become carers or caregivers for loved ones without prior experience or training.
First responders, health professionals, and support workers can feel overwhelmed trying to balance caring for their clients with family life.

Does this sound like you or someone you know?

Mothers and their babies negotiating boundaries.

There is something so grounded and present observing a female animal with her offspring.

Such clarity of boundaries spoken with the most subtle body language cues.

A flick of an ear says don’t do that please.
Heads lift to check for danger.
A nostril flares to notice scents in the air.
Touching a shoulder offers safety.
A soft nicker means let’s rest now little one.

I’ve been lucky to have many encounters observing animals with their young ones.

Mares are very strong protectors of their foals, but nothing I’ve witnessed compares to the fierce yet tender female grizzly bear in the wild.
That’s full-on Mamma Bear in action.

Nurturing our bodies.

Nala and Denny aka the HEAL herd are masters at being present and knowing what they need from moment to moment.

That might be grazing, getting a drink of water, lying down for a rest, or moving to the shade.

How will you nurture your body this weekend?

Listen to the whispers of our own wisdom.

Year of the Horse - 2026 - Year of the Fire Horse.

What better time to ignite your inner fire, be seen and held by the herd, and learn to listen to the wisdom of your own body and your senses.

We found a snake skin in one of our sheds yesterday on the 16th February 2026 which was literally the last day of the Year of the Snake.

As we step into the Year of the Fire Horse, have you shed anything from last year?

Pieces of paper….

Three pieces of paper might not sound like much but over the past few weeks I’ve been reminded of what pieces of paper may represent such as:

• Moving into your own place.
• Learning something new.
• Smashing the lead role in a theatre production (Yay LB)
• Pushing yourself out of a comfort zone.
• Getting through a tough day.

These 3 pieces of paper remind me that I did full time study in my 60’s, lots of professional development training, and many hours of supervision to become a Registered Counsellor, an EAP Practitioner, and Animal Assisted Services Professional Member.

How are you going to acknowledge or celebrate your “pieces of paper”?
