Australian Centre for Career Education (formerly the Career Education Association of Victoria, CEAV) is a national career education subject association, subject expert, and endorsed training provider of career practitioners by the peak industry body, The Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA). We are a not-for-profit educational charity and thought leader in career education and development.

Our mission is the advancement of career development and education for the public benefit of all Australians. The Australian Centre for Career Education commenced in 1975 to train teachers in secondary schools to support student subject choices and transitioning. We have a proud history of service to the education and community sectors, governments, and the community. In 2014, we changed our name to The Australian Centre for Career Education to reflect our national focus and our ongoing development and delivery of high quality career resources, training, and consulting services across Australia.

Only 49% of Australian apprentices surveyed said they received good information at school about all the career pathways available to them.

That’s one of the findings from Apprenticeship Support Australia’s 2026 National First Year Experience Survey, which gathered responses from more than 12,000 current and former apprentices and trainees.

More than half of current apprentices surveyed made the decision to pursue an apprenticeship after leaving school.

The report highlights an important opportunity for career education: giving students balanced information about university, TAFE, apprenticeships, traineeships and other pathways while they are still at school, with practical connections to their interests, capabilities and future opportunities.

For career practitioners, it’s a valuable piece of research and a strong reminder of the role quality career guidance plays well beyond subject and course selection.

ACCE is proud to celebrate our former CEO, Bernadette Gigliotti, who has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (General Division) for services to secondary and vocational education.

Bernadette’s leadership helped build the Australian Centre for Career Education into the organisation it is today and strengthened the career sector nationally through her work with the Career Industry Council of Australia. Her advocacy has driven major reforms, including Victoria’s investment in career education and the establishment of the My Career Insights program, as well as pioneering initiatives that expanded access for disadvantaged and vulnerable cohorts.

Her lifelong commitment to equitable, high‑quality career development has positively impacted young people, adults and communities across Australia. The ACCE Board and staff warmly congratulate Bernadette on this well‑deserved honour.
