Simple ingredients for meaningful play 🌻🌷🌹🪻

We kicked off Harmony Week with a lovely parent coming into Kinder to teach some of the children how to make PASTA 🍝🇮🇹🤤
The children worked as a team to make the pasta dough, and each had a turn at using the pasta machine to make spaghetti and fettuccine. A delicious way to celebrate 🧡

Recently our 3YO group read the story of Wombat Stew, which sparked lots of ideas about creating our own stews at Kinder 🥘

The children suggested ingredients that we could gather, made a poster to invite family contributions, and were so excited to return to Kinder with some natural treasures.
Since then, the mud kitchen has been busy with imaginative stew creations, inspired by their ideas and ingredients from home ✨🌿🌻🥄

The children filled their hearts with drawings and watercolour paintings of all the things they love most. An exploration of identity, belonging, and what makes their hearts feel full 🥰

❄️☃️🌨️ Some of our winter activity highlights so far at Watsonia North Preschool!

🔹Arctic animal play, which included some lovely rainbows under the arch
🔹Different styles of painting, including using pastels and water paints, and visual prompts to paint
🔹Polar bear craft
🔹Snowflake threading
🔹Watching a hailstorm, and then collecting and touching the hailstones
🔹 Jumping in the puddles created by the hailstorm! ☔️

What’s your favourite thing about winter? 🥶

Last week both our 3YO and 4YO groups had a visit from the Greensborough Police! 🚨🚔
We were so lucky to have such an important visit to learn all about how the police can keep us safe, and how to call for help in an emergency.
This week, the children have been enjoying tabletop police station play, as well as dressing up as police officers and patrolling the yard 👮🏼‍♂️👮🏻

How the Birds Got Their Colours 🦅🦜🌈
The 3YO group have spent recent sessions making their own colourful birds at the craft table, inspired by the Dreamtime story.
They’ve also enjoyed using different Australian bird puppets in play, often flying them high up in the Kinder room, mimicking what each bird may sound like 🥰

One of our favourite things to do since our new fort installation is…. jump straight off it, obviously 😂🤪

The children absolutely love taking it in turns to jump safely onto the crash mat, and practice their stylish landings along the way 😎
