Why Have Concerts? 🎤

What if your child doesn't sing a single note at their Mini Maestros concert? 💛

That's okay too!

For some children, stepping onto the stage is the biggest achievement. For others, it's singing their favourite song, playing an instrument or proudly showing their family what they've learnt.

At Mini Maestros, our concerts aren't about getting everything right.
They're about giving children an opportunity to:
🌟 Build confidence in a supportive environment
🎶 Experience the joy of making music together
💛 Celebrate their progress with family and friends
👏 Feel proud of themselves for having a go!

And sometimes, the children who are quietest in class surprise everyone on concert day!

It's not about the perfect performance. It's about the experience.

Happy Milestone Friday! 🌈 Term 4, Week 2 is in full swing, and every age group is reaching for something new — all through the joy of music and movement:

🎵 0s — Musical story
🤝 1s — Partner and group work
🎼 2s — Musical form and sequences
🏃 3s — Responding to tempo
⭐ 4s — Gross motor skills

From babies lost in a musical story, to preschoolers moving their whole bodies in time to the beat — these little milestones are the building blocks of confidence, coordination and connection. And the very best part? Every one of them is reached through play. 💛

Can you believe this instrument evolved from a metal drum? 👀
Meet the steelpan, an instrument strongly associated with Trinidad and Tobago. 🇹🇹🎶
Different areas of its surface are carefully shaped and tuned to produce different pitches when struck.
Which means one instrument can create a whole collection of notes. ✨
🥁 Try this with your child:
Find two safe objects at home that make different sounds when gently tapped.
Which one is higher? Which one is lower?
Music is everywhere when we stop and listen.

For little people, wellbeing can begin with some very simple things. 💛
Feeling safe.
Feeling connected.
Feeling heard.
Knowing their grown-up is there.
On World Mental Health Day, we’re celebrating one of the beautiful things music gives families: another way to connect.
Children don't always have the words for what they're feeling.
But they can move.
They can sing.
They can make noise.
They can slow down.
They can cuddle while you sing a familiar song. 🎶
And sometimes those small shared moments are exactly what a little person needs.
So today, perhaps forget about singing beautifully.
Choose a song your child loves, sit together and just be in the music with them. 💛

Term 4, Week 1 Milestones
Term 4 has only just begun… and look what we’re already working on! 🌱🎶
This week, each age group has its own developmental focus:
💛 0s — Watching and learning from peers
💙 1s — Building confidence
💚 2s — Identifying and responding to pitch: high, middle and low
🩷 3s — Responding to dynamics
💜 4s — Notating rhythms
From a baby beginning to notice and learn from the other children around them, to a four-year-old starting to write down rhythms — there’s an incredible amount of growth across the Mini Maestros journey. 🥹
And this is just Week 1.
Over the next ten weeks, we’ll keep building on these skills through singing, movement, instruments, listening, play and plenty of repetition.
Welcome to a whole new term of Music. Movement. Milestones. 💛

There’s a BIG difference between simply hearing music and getting involved in it. 🎶
When little ones sing, clap, tap, move and play along, they’re combining listening with movement, attention and participation.
In other words…
Don’t just press play. PLAY! 👏🥁💃
Sing badly. Dance enthusiastically. Grab the wooden spoons.

We're so excited to share that we've expanded our Thursday morning timetable with two new classes for little musicians aged 1-2 years and 2-3 years.

If you've been thinking about giving Mini Maestros a try, we're currently offering a 3-week trial for new families. It's a wonderful way to experience the program and see what it's all about.

Hi! I thought it was about time I properly introduced myself 👋

I'm Danielle (also known as Danni), the owner and teacher of Mini Maestros Eltham, Greensborough and Montmorency 🐝🎶

I'm a qualified Early Childhood Teacher, singing teacher, performer and mum of two young kids. Music has always been a huge part of my life and it's an absolute joy to share that love with children every day. My favourite part is watching little ones grow in confidence and seeing their personalities shine!
