Oh My Grief Founder and Director Steve Morrison has a wealth of both academic and practical knowledge surrounding the issues of loss and grief. He holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Loss, Grief and Trauma Counselling, a Masters Degree from the Sydney College of Divinity and is

currently writing his Doctorate Thesis which is researching the connection between faith and grief. As a Funeral Celebrant and Chaplain, Steve has conducted almost 1000 funeral services. He is often called upon to work in complicated grief situations, specifically suicide and homicide, as well the very delicate journey of child deaths. Steve has over 24 years experience working with people as a minister, chaplain and funeral celebrant. His passion for people and commitment for inspiring people to live their best life, has seen him speak on stages around the world. Steve has a love of life that is contagious and describes himself as someone who has been unusually gifted to deal with death and those impacted by it. LIFE CAN CHANGE IN A MOMENT ⏰

For those who have known me for a long time, you’ll know that I’ve faced plenty of challenging health issues over the years. They have shaped me, challenged me and regularly reminded me just how precious life really is.

And unfortunately, I find myself here again.

Last Thursday I underwent surgery for another serious skin cancer (5 internal stitches and 13 external). Today is day three of recovery and I’m actually feeling really good. 🙏 The results won’t come until the end of next week and I’m praying that no further treatment will be needed!!!!

What amazes me is that this cancer was less than 2mm in diameter and visually looked fine, even under the doctors magnifying glass (like a tiny pimple). But something inside me said it wasn’t right. It reminded me of the SCC I had 18 years ago and I insisted we biopsy it.

I knew that I knew that I knew.

And I’m incredibly thankful I listened to my body. 🙏

Moments like this remind me how fragile life can be. Things really can change in a moment.

But we still get to choose what we do with the life in front of us.

We can stay stuck asking “Why me?” or we can ask “What am I going to do with the life I’ve been given?” 🔥

I choose hope.
I choose gratitude.
I choose possibility
I choose to believe there are still extraordinary chapters ahead. ❤️

The call on my life has never changed:

Well… nobody saw this coming! 😂

For those who know us you’ll know that Naomi and I are definitely not campers. So imagine my surprise when, completely out of the blue, Naomi announced that we should buy a rooftop tent and go exploring! 🤷‍♂️🏕️

Fast forward a few weeks and somehow we’ve gone all in… rooftop tent ✔️ auxiliary battery ✔️ fridge ✔️ awning ✔️ chairs ✔️ and enough gadgets to make us look like we’ve been doing this for years. 😅

Last night was our very first night under the stars at Coolum Beach - I think I slept a few hours.🤦‍♂️

Second night tonight before we are off to Noosa for a week in a beautiful resort - to remind ourselves what we are missing! 😂

Then almost a week of camping as we make our way down the NSW coast back home 🏠

Will we become seasoned campers? Will we love it?
Will we hate it?
“Please don’t rain!” 🤣

One thing’s for sure though… life’s a whole lot richer when you keep saying yes to new adventures even when they’re well outside your comfort zone.

And the biggest question of all…

Let’s see if we’re still married in two weeks’ time! 😜❤️

The best is yet to come.

PS. Our kids think we have ‘lost the plot’. 😄

You are such a loyal, skilled and exceptional employee at Cotton On, your work effort is second to none… something even Prince Harry and Meghan agree with. 👑

This week, I was part of a conversation in a room I never imagined I’d be in… one of those wow moments ⭐️

I had the opportunity to speak directly with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Duke & Duchess of Sussex, about youth mental health in regional and remote communities.

The workshop, led by batyr, created space for honest conversations about mental health through lived experience, and I’m grateful to the Cotton On Foundation for sharing the opportunity with me.

Over two days, we spoke about the realities in regional and remote communities; stigma, barriers to support, and how often help only comes once things reach crisis point. It reinforced how important early conversation and prevention really are.

We then continued these conversations directly with Prince Harry and Meghan, a genuine, two way conversation grounded in lived experience and focused on real impact.

I asked Meghan what mental fitness looks like for her. She spoke about protecting your digital diet and being open with the people you love, later expanding on this with the wider group sharing that she was the most trolled person in the world for a decade and how she continues to keep going. It was honest, confronting and something you could feel in the room.

Before they left, Meghan made a point of coming back to connect with our group, giving us each a hug. It felt genuine... one of those moments you don’t forget.

I also shook hands and spoke with Prince Harry, where he shared the importance of continuing to have these convos in the future, ensuring this wasn’t just a moment, but something with real intent.

Coming from a regional community, it was incredible to see our voices heard and amplified on a global stage in such a meaningful way.

Meghan also shared a reflection, including a quote from Maya Angelou that has stayed with me too:
“My wish for you is that you continue to be who and how you are, to astonish a mean world with your acts of kindness and to allow humour to lighten the burden of your tender heart.”
