📣 eSafety has sent notices to 4 major online gaming platforms asking questions about how they're keeping users safe.

We've given notices to Roblox, Minecraft, Fortnite and Steam amid concerns about:
⚠ sexual predators using online games to groom children
⚠ extremist and terrorist groups spreading violent propaganda and radicalising young people
⚠ cyberbullying and online hate.

The providers must explain how they are identifying, preventing and responding to these harms.

Under the Online Safety Act, eSafety can require services to report on how they are meeting the Australian Government's expectations that they take reasonable steps to keep Australians safe. Online gaming platforms must also comply with Australia's online safety codes and standards.

eSafety reports back on the information we receive from companies to shine a light on safety risks and mitigations. This incentivises tech companies to adopt Safety by Design, engineering out harms before they occur.

🛡 Ultimately, the aim is to ensure all users, especially children, can enjoy the benefits these platforms have to offer without experiencing avoidable harms.
