Cape York Girl Academy is Australia’s first boarding high school designed for young Indigenous mothers and their babies to live and learn together.

We also have a cohort of young women who are at risk of disengaging with their education.

At Cape York Girl Academy, we celebrate the strength of First Nations voices, stories, languages and cultures, and the important place they hold in learning.

For our girls and young women, literacy is about more than words on a page. It is about sharing stories, strengthening identity, expressing ideas and building confidence for the future.

Today is an opportunity to celebrate the knowledge carried through generations and the stories our students will continue to share.

Our Year 11 student, Kellyana Duncan, is building valuable hands-on skills through our Certificate II in Engineering Pathways course, learning how to safely operate a lathe to manufacture precision metal components.

Practical learning like this gives our students the confidence, technical skills and real-world experience to explore exciting pathways into engineering, manufacturing and other skilled trades.

We're proud to support Kellyana and all of our students as they develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to take the next step towards their future.

𝗣𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🔬✨

Science came to life as our Year 7 and 8 students explored the forces that shape the world around us.

With Ms Kim, the girls learned about forces and friction, discovering how objects move, slow down and respond to different surfaces.

Hands-on learning helps turn big ideas into real understanding, giving students the confidence to ask questions, test their thinking and stay curious. 💡

𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿. 💛

Our Junior students recently took part in a series of activities designed to strengthen teamwork, communication and trust.

The girls worked together to stack cups using only string and a rubber band, then guided their partners through a blindfolded challenge. Each activity encouraged patience, clear communication and confidence in one another.

To finish the day, the students created a web of kindness. Each girl shared something positive about another student before passing the string across the group, showing how kind words can bring people closer together.

Through experiences like these, our students are building strong relationships, growing in confidence and developing skills that will support them as they make positive choices for their futures. 🌟

Congratulations to Shaniqua and Lenji, who were named runner-up Age Champions in the 13 years and 14 years divisions following our Middle School Athletics Day at the end of term 2!

Our Hospitality students will be serving from our food truck and coffee van ☕, while our other VET students will have interactive activities for you to enjoy, including artwork on display and for sale. Come and have a yarn, we’d love to see you there!

On Wednesday our Cape York Girl Academy girls were proud to attend the official opening of Wanggulay, Djarragun College's new boys' boarding house, alongside their Djarragun schoolmates. 💜

Meaning "white-crested cockatoo" in the Djabugay language, Wanggulay represents a place where young men can be guided to succeed not only in their studies but also in respect, responsibility and strong relationships.

It was a special occasion to celebrate this important milestone for Djarragun College and the opportunities it will create for future generations.

Our girls were honoured to be part of the celebration and witness another investment in strong futures, strong culture and strong Indigenous leadership across northern Australia. ✨

Today, our Cape York Girls Academy students joined their fellow Djarragun College students for an exciting day of activities at their annual Sports Day event.

The day was filled with energy, teamwork, friendly competition and plenty of school spirit. Our girls embraced every opportunity to get involved, support one another and enjoy being part of the wider school community.

A big congratulations to all students who participated and gave their best throughout the day. We loved seeing the enthusiasm, determination and positive attitudes on display.

Today, Nurse Mel swapped roles and became the patient while Kelly stepped up to learn how to check ears like a pro. ✨

Hands-on learning like this builds confidence and practical skills and inspires our young women to explore careers in health and community care.
