Lyrics don't always have to be deep and meaningful for a song to be super successful. Let's look at a few:

1. Blinded by the light - Manfred Man
2. White Room - Cream
3. I am the Walrus - The Beatles
4. Champagne Supernova - Oasis

and I have to admit one of my favourite all-time weird lyric tunes...
5. Smells like Teen Spirit - Nirvana

Yet these songs were all super tracks. Why's that do you think?

What do you find comes first? The music or the lyrics?
Do you hear the music in your head or do you find words seem to stream through first? There are many different styles of songwriting.
In the days of "Tin Pan Alley", songwriters used to clock in at 9am and clock out at 5pm! Neil Sedaka was one such songwriter. However nowadays, the days of Tin Pan Alley are well and truly gone and replaced by music publishers who often demand a certain amount of songs from their writers. Oftentimes songwriters prefer to remain indie. Both have their benefits and downsides.

Q: Do I have to be able to play an instrument to be a songwriter?
A: NO! You would be termed “a lyricist”.

There are many lyricists who don’t play musical instruments and there are many musicians who don’t write lyrics!

One of the courses of THE SONGWRITERS WAY is all about COLLABORATION and CO-CREATING, where you get to pair up and create a finished song together.

Interactive is so important. I, for one, am not a fan of being "talked at" although I do understand the value of webinars.
