📚🎶 Book Week 2026 – Symphony of Stories! 🎶📚

What a lovely morning we had at Goodwood State School last week celebrating this year’s Book Week theme, “Symphony of Stories”! 📖✨

Our students looked fantastic in their Book Week costumes, bringing an amazing collection of much-loved characters and stories to life. There was plenty of excitement, colour and creativity on display! 🌟

Following our parade, students enjoyed outdoor reading rotations in small groups, sharing stories around our beautiful school grounds. A very special thank you to our wonderful Woodgate Readers, other wonderful volunteers and staff, who joined us and brought stories to life for our students. 💙

We are so fortunate to have such wonderful people who generously give their time to support our students and share a love of reading.

*Flashback to Week 2, Term 3*

🐻 We’re Going on a Bear Hunt! 🌿

This week our Prep students explored the much-loved story We’re Going on a Bear Hunt as they developed their oral retell skills.

Through hands-on learning, the children used small world play to act out the story, created their own bear hunt maps, and made binoculars before heading off on an exciting bear hunt adventure around our school. These engaging activities helped students practise retelling the story in sequence while building their confidence as speakers.

It was wonderful to see so much imagination, teamwork and enthusiasm as we swished through the grass, splashed through the river and tiptoed into the cave… all in search of the bear! 🐾🐻

Our 2027 Prep Transition Days are coming up, and we can’t wait to welcome our future Prep students and their families!

Transition days are a wonderful opportunity for children to meet our staff, explore their classroom, make new friends and become familiar with school before their big first day in 2027. ⭐

📅 Our first transition morning is Tuesday 15 September
⏰ 9:15am – 10:45am

Further transition sessions will continue throughout Term 4.

💙 All children are welcome — whether you’ve already enrolled, are considering Goodwood SS, or would simply like to come along and see what Prep looks like at our school.

🧸 You’re also welcome to join us at Playgroup! Held every Thursday from 9:00–10:30am, Playgroup is another lovely opportunity for children and families to spend time at Goodwood SS, meet our staff and become familiar with our school before Prep begins.

🔬💻 Getting Ready for National Science Week!💻🔬

With National Science Week just around the corner, our students got an early start on the STEM fun with a fantastic Digital Incursion with Damien from DigiTech Tinker Lab - Damien Kee! 🤖✨

Last year, our students explored the exciting world of robotics. This year, we challenged ourselves with coding, with students from Prep right through to Year 6 getting involved!

🪼 Jellyfish explored ScratchJr on the iPads, learning how coding involves giving instructions in the correct order and creating simple sequences.

🐋 Dugongs stepped up to the computer version of Scratch, uncovering lots of new capabilities! They coded their avatars to dance along to music and had fun exploring and changing backgrounds.

🐢 Turtles took the challenge even further, using multiple avatars and carefully sequencing and timing their code to create a joke using speech bubbles. Very cool! 😎💻

Each class loved the hands-on challenge and the opportunity to problem-solve, create and experiment. The verdict was unanimous – they all requested Damien come back again soon! 🙌

A BIG thank you to our wonderful Goodwood State School P&C for sharing the cost of the incursion with the school, meaning there was no cost to families. How wonderful! We are so grateful for their continued support in providing these fantastic learning opportunities for our students. 💙

💛 Thank You, Rural Fire Volunteers! 🚒

What a fantastic morning we had celebrating Woodgate Wears Yellow and welcoming members of the Goodwood Rural Fire Service to our school!

From our littlest Playgroup children through to our Year 6 students, everyone had a wonderful time learning about the important work our Rural Fire Service volunteers do to protect and support our community. Students loved exploring the fire truck, learning about the equipment and hearing firsthand about the important role our local volunteers play.

We are incredibly grateful for all of our Rural Fire Service volunteers, particularly the wonderful members of the Goodwood and Woodgate Rural Fire Services, who generously give their time to help keep our local community safe.

A big thank you to everyone who wore yellow and contributed a gold coin donation, with all funds donated directly to the Goodwood Rural Fire Service. It was a fun and memorable morning filled with excitement, learning and appreciation for some very special members of our community. 💛🚒🌿

Our Playgroup families and younger siblings are certainly invited to dress up and join in the fun too! 💙

🌿📱 Year 1 HASS – Exploring Our School! 🏫

Our Year 1 students took their learning beyond the classroom this week as part of their HASS unit, exploring the school grounds to identify different types of places.

Using iPads, the students photographed and recorded examples of natural, managed and constructed features they found around our school. From gardens and trees to playgrounds, buildings and sporting areas, they developed their understanding of how people use and care for different environments.

It was fantastic to see our students working collaboratively, using technology to document their discoveries and building their understanding of the world around them. 🌱📸

🌿 NAIDOC Week 🌿

This week, our Prep/Year 1 students celebrated NAIDOC Week through learning, creativity and storytelling.

We explored the rich histories and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and discussed why it is important to acknowledge the Country on which we learn, play and grow. We also enjoyed reading Dreaming stories, including Tiddalick the Frog, and reflected on the important messages they share.

As part of our learning, we created collage Aboriginal Flags and learnt what each colour represents.

Using our creativity, we also experimented with different painting techniques and natural seed pods to create beautiful artworks inspired by Aboriginal art.

It has been a wonderful week of learning, respect and appreciation, helping our students deepen their understanding of and connection to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. ❤️🖤💛
