🌟 AWESOME NEWS FOR YOUNG YARNZ! 🌟

We are incredibly proud to share that Young Yarnz has received $50,000 from the 2026 Screenrights Cultural Fund! 🖤💛❤️

This support is going to help us take a HUGE next step, building a purpose-designed digital platform that brings our First Nations screen stories, knowledge holders and classroom activities together into an interactive learning experience for primary schools across Australia.

Young Yarnz started with a simple goal: to make it easier for teachers to confidently bring culturally safe, engaging and meaningful First Nations learning into their classrooms.

We’ve spent the past few years creating, learning, listening, filming and working alongside some incredible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander storytellers and knowledge holders.

Now we get to take everything we’ve built and make it even more accessible for teachers and young people. 🙌🏾

A massive THANK YOU to Screenrights and the Screenrights Cultural Fund for believing in Young Yarnz and supporting the next stage of our journey.

And thank you to every storyteller, Elder, educator, school, collaborator and young person who has been part of Young Yarnz so far. This project is growing because of all of you.

Young Yarnz is truly honoured to have Lanie as a keynote speaker at the AISWA First Nations Conference, taking place at UWA in Perth on 7–8 September 2026 alongside deadly mob who will also be presenting.

Lanie will have the opportunity to share her Young Yarnz platform & story with educators from across the country, how deadly is that!
This conference is shaping up to be something special, bringing together educators, leaders, and change makers committed to strengthening outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education in classrooms.

We’re also incredibly excited to have the Honorable Stan Grant hosting the two-day conference alongside AISWA.

🖤💚💙 Today is Mabo Day.

We’re exceptionally privileged to have Iya Ware, a proud Torres Strait Islander woman, sharing her knowledge with Young Yarnz students across Australia.

In this lesson, Iya explores who Eddie Koiki Mabo was, why the Mabo decision changed Australia, and the importance of land rights for First Nations peoples.

We know these conversations can feel challenging to teach. That’s why Young Yarnz brings authentic First Nations voices directly into classrooms, helping students learn through story, culture and lived experience.

Today, on National Sorry Day, we remember and honour the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were taken from their families, communities and cultures as part of the Stolen Generations.

We also acknowledge the strength, resilience and courage of Stolen Generations survivors, their families and communities, who continue to share their stories so future generations can learn from the past.

At Young Yarnz, we are incredibly grateful to have Stolen Generations Elders and knowledge holders share their lived experiences and wisdom through our platform.

We understand that for many primary school teachers, the topic of the Stolen Generations can be difficult to explore in the classroom. That’s why we’ve created age-appropriate, curriculum-aligned lessons that allow our Elders to share this important part of Australia’s history in a respectful, truthful and culturally safe way.

Through storytelling, yarning and First Nations voices, students can develop a deeper understanding of our shared history while building empathy, respect and connection.

I’m incredibly grateful to have been invited to speak at this year’s Yaakin Bidi Leadership Expo for Future Footprints 2026.

Huge thank you to AISWA - Association of Independent Schools of Western Australia for inviting me to speak. Many years ago, I was once a student standing in that very space, listening and learning from our leaders, and to now be asked back to share my passion and the vision behind Young Yarnz is something truly special. I’m so grateful. 🔆

Thank you to Kristy, Andrew, and all the mob who supported this incredible event.

To all the deadly young ones who came up to have a yarn with me, thank you. It brings me so much joy seeing the next generation absolutely thriving and striving in their studies and walking strong in who they are.

Come join us on our Young Yarnz incursion at Comet Bay Primary School! ✨

We had the most incredible time sharing stories, culture, and lots of laughs with the students. Their energy, curiosity, and respect were something really special, they jumped into every activity with open hearts and big smiles.

From storytelling to art, they embraced every moment and made it their own. You could feel how much they were taking it all in, asking thoughtful questions and connecting deeply with what was being shared.

We absolutely loved every bit of it… and it’s safe to say, they did too! 💛

Can’t wait to be back for more yarns soon. Thank you Comet Bay PS, you mob are so deadly! We can’t wait for you to continue the learning in your classrooms with our Young Yarnz Digital Platform for 2026 woohoo🔆

I never thought I’d come back here like this.

Holy Rosary Primary School in Derby my hometown.
A place built on land my great grandfather, a proud Nyikina man, donated to the community.

Now I’m back…
Not just to visit, but to create something I wish we had growing up.

Because teachers have been asked to lead First Nations culture for years without the time, support, or the right voices in the room.

So we built Young Yarnz.

Led by First Nations people.
Ready for classrooms.
