βœοΈπŸ“š Inaugural SFX Writers Festival! πŸ“šβœοΈ

During Week 6, students celebrated creativity, storytelling and student voice through our very first SFX Writers Festival. The festival supported the writing skills students develop every day in the classroom, providing opportunities to generate ideas, write for authentic purposes and see themselves as authors.

We were fortunate to welcome three talented Australian authors to SFX:

πŸ“š Dave Lowe inspired students with his humour, creativity and love of storytelling. Some lucky Year 3–6 students also participated in a special writing workshop with Dave.

πŸ“– RJ Timmis, author and illustrator of Mertales, taught students how to draw and bring characters to life through illustration. Some lucky Prep–Year 2 students also enjoyed a special storywriting session with RJ.

🌟 K.R. Clarry encouraged students to believe in themselves as writers, think creatively and share their own stories with confidence by creating mini books

Inspired by these experiences, students have been busy planning, drafting, revising, editing and illustrating pieces for our school book, Kids Who Care – Stories We Share. This book will be available for purchase during Term 4.

A huge thank you to our visiting authors, staff and students for making our first Writers Festival such a memorable celebration of literacy and learning.

β˜€οΈ Celebrating Our Amazing Dads and Special People! β˜€οΈ

Thank you to all the fathers, grandfathers, carers and special people who joined us this morning for our Father's Day breakfast and open classrooms. It was wonderful to see so many families spending time together and enjoying a glimpse into the learning taking place at St Francis Xavier.

We are grateful for the positive impact that fathers and special role models have in the lives of our students and school community. Thank you for making the morning such a special occasion.

A huge shout out to our wonderful PFG volunteers for coordinating the Father's Day Stall and helping students choose a special gift for the important people in their lives. πŸŽπŸ’™

Happy Father's Day! πŸ’™

On Monday 31 August, ten of our deadly First Nations students from Years 4–6 attended the BCE Western Corridor First Nations Cultural Day.

The day began with a Smoking Ceremony before students immersed themselves in a range of cultural experiences. They learnt songs and dances inspired by fish and birds, identified native bush tucker and plants traditionally used for medicinal purposes, explored how to express their own voice and connection to Dreaming through painting, and created cultural-themed bracelets.

Our students thoroughly enjoyed learning from the cultural tutors and developing positive friendships with First Nations students from nearby schools. Lots of fun was had by all, and our students returned with a deeper connection to culture and an even stronger sense of pride in who they are.

What a deadly day of culture, connection and celebration!

πŸ“šπŸŽΆβœ¨ Symphony of Stories! βœ¨πŸŽΆπŸ“š

We had an incredible celebration this morning of reading, imagination and creativity at our Book Week Parade!

As part of this year's CBCA Book Week theme, Symphony of Stories, our students and staff transformed into a spectacular cast of book characters, bringing favourite stories to life.
From timeless classics to modern favourites, every costume added its own note to the wonderful symphony of stories that filled our hall. The excitement was contagious as students proudly showcased their characters and cheered on their peers.

A huge congratulations to our costume prize winners and to every student who participated. The effort, enthusiasm and imagination on display were truly outstanding!

Thank you to our families for your support in helping create such amazing costumes, and to our staff for making the day so memorable. A special thank you to our Library Leaders for leading our parade so beautifully. It was also wonderful to see some younger siblings joining in the fun and dressing up too!

πŸ“–βœ¨ As Dr Seuss reminds us:
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."

Today, our students proved that a great book can take you anywhere!

πŸŽ‰ The St Francis Xavier School community is celebrating today after James Seguna was awarded a Commendation for Excellence in Strengthening Catholic Identity at the Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) Excellence Awards event on Friday 14 August πŸŽ‰

In 2026, 633 nominations were received from across BCE’s system of 146 schools.

BCE Acting Executive Director Ross Tarlinton OAM said the awards were an opportunity to pause and recognise excellence as something lived through service, faith and care.

β€œAt its heart, excellence is found in faithful service, in the daily commitment to walk alongside others, to lead with humility, to teach with love, and to create places of learning where every person is known, valued, and called to flourish.”

Congratulations, James! 🌟
