On Friday 12th June our Open Girls Knockout Netball team played in round 1 of their matches.

The team started the day with a strong performance against Gleeson. After a closely contested first half, the girls lifted their defensive pressure across the court and secured an impressive eight-goal victory.

Despite their best efforts, Kapunda and Kadina High School proved too strong on the day, with our team unfortunately falling short in both matches and therefore not progressing to the next round.

While the results did not go our way, the girls should be incredibly proud of the determination, intensity, teamwork, and sportsmanship they displayed throughout the competition. They represented our school with great pride and were excellent ambassadors both on and off the court.

Native plants, ecosystems and invasive species - Science/HaSS collab!

Year 7 students explored the impact of introduced species on native ecosystems and learned how to help native plants thrive, linking this with Aboriginal perspectives on caring for Country. Guided by Global Perspectives and Science teachers of 702, students identified and removed invasive weeds from the garden beds between the Middle School and Art buildings, where native trees, shrubs, grasses and groundcovers—planted when the Middle School was built in 2022, and added to last year by Year 7 students—were competing for nutrients, water and sunlight. This hands-on activity was particularly enjoyed by neurodivergent students with high movement needs, who thrived with greater space, flexibility, and control over their learning. Students reflected on how, just like plants, everyone in our learning community needs different conditions to thrive!🪴

On Friday of Week 7, our Year 7/8 Netball Statewide Knockout Team competed against Gleeson, Kapunda, and Maitland. The girls demonstrated outstanding determination, teamwork, and resilience throughout all three matches. Despite tough losses to Gleeson and Maitland, the team never gave up, continuing to encourage one another and work hard until the final whistle. Their efforts were rewarded with a well-deserved victory against Kapunda, showcasing the skills and teamwork they have developed through their commitment through the day. The girls represented the school with pride, displaying excellent sportsmanship, a positive attitude, and a willingness to support one another. Their hard work, perseverance, and dedication were evident in every match, and they should be extremely proud of their efforts.

Year 8 Spanish excursion

Did you know Adelaide Zoo is home to MUCHOS ANIMALES (many animals) of the Spanish-speaking world?

All our Year 8 Spanish classes have the opportunity to visit the zoo. Students enjoy collaborating with amigos to find animals from the Spanish-speaking world, learn about endangered species & how we can help them, as well as using their Spanish to identify & describe animals e.g. capybara, anaconda, iguana, coati, macaw, Patagonian cavy, Brazilian tapir, Bolivian squirrel monkey, Pygmy marmoset, Emperor tamarin.

What a great way to assess our learning on verbs and adjectives in Spanish!

And, por supesto (of course), the students enjoy time on the giant playground at the end!

What a finish! Our Golden Grove High School Boys Open soccer team showed incredible determination and composure to claim victory in a dramatic statewide competition clash against Salisbury East High School.

Golden Grove started strongly, taking control of the game early and building a well-deserved 2–0 lead through excellent teamwork, sharp passing, a clinical finishing and an own goal. The boys looked in command and were playing some outstanding Soccer.

To their credit, Salisbury East refused to give up. They fought their way back into the contest and scored twice in the second half, levelling the match at 2–2 and setting up a tense finish. Both teams had chances to find a winner, but neither side could break the deadlock before full time.

With the scores locked, the match headed to a penalty shootout.

After the regulation 5 penalties, and after some solid goalkeeping from our Keeper it was up to our 6th taker to hold his grit a slot it in to secure a second round birth.
