On Monday, during the ID Program, our Year 7 students explored brain development. They learned about the different parts of the brain and their functions before creating models to demonstrate their understanding. In their next lesson, students will build on this learning by exploring emotional regulation and strategies for managing their emotions.

SPANISH EMBASSY EDUCATION ADVISOR VISITS GGHS!

Some of our Year 8, 9 and 10 students studying Spanish were fortunate to meet Education Advisor for the Spanish Embassy in Melbourne, Andrés Gomez, who visited our school in week 5.

Andrés asked our Year 10 students questions in Spanish and English about their Investigation where they are creating podcasts in Spanish about social, environmental and political issues across the Spanish-speaking world.

At lunch he answered questions from some of our keen year 9 students, and enjoyed a poke bowl from our school canteen which included some school-grown carrots and peas🥕🫛

After lunch he visited three of our year 8 classes and presented some interesting and fun statistics and information about the Spanish language in the world, quizzed the students and gave out some prizes.

We say ¡Muchas gracias Andrés! for the time you spent with us all.

LEGACY FUNDRAISING BBQ – 1st September

Our school is having a fundraising sausage sizzle to support Legacy.
Legacy is a non-for profit organisation who have and continue to support more than 30,000 veterans and the families of veterans who have given their lives and health for our country. Supporting Legacy has been a tradition that Golden Grove has done for many years.

The BBQ will be held on Tuesday 1st of September at lunchtime in the Quad.

Sausages and drinks are available to pre order through the QKR app under excursions and activities, this will close Monday 31st August. Sausages will also be available to purchase on the day. (Eftpos will be available).

To support the BBQ a couple of volunteers from Legacy will be attending and will be bringing some merchandise to sell on the day. This will include the legacy bears and some pins.

Our students were once again amazing at the 33rd ONE+ Cross Campus Book Cup, taking home 2nd place for Milo’s Symphony of Sounds!

Thanks to author Adam Cece for leading the inspiring “Book in a Day” workshop that started the event in Week 3.

Congratulations to all involved, and to everyone who showed bravery presenting their books to Year 2s and special guests, including local MPs, councillors, school leaders, and the Mayor of Tea Tree Gully.

We’re proud of your creativity and teamwork—well done, GGHS Book Cup teams!

14 of our Year 10 students are off to the Active Citizenship Convention next Wednesday to be inspired and learn how their voices can help shape change in their school, community and futures, just like Joel!

Click the link to hear Joel’s passion for civics!

'After that convention, we all fought for change.'

Golden Grove High School Student Joel and his peers took what they learned at last year’s Active Citizenship Convention and turned it into action, working on issues that mattered to their school, including improving access to period products.

Kicking off next week, the 2026 Active Citizenship Convention gives year 10 students the chance to meet inspiring leaders, explore real-world issues and learn how they can make a difference in their own communities. 🙌

2026 Aboriginal STEM Learner’s Congress

Four of our First Nations students recently had the opportunity to attend the 2026 STEM Aboriginal Learners Congress at Adelaide Oval, taking part in an exciting two day program designed to connect Aboriginal learners with STEM learning, problem solving and future career pathways.

Across the two days students got hands on with a range of challenges and activities, including biomimicry in nature, a STEM design challenge, ‘Are You Faster Than an Emu?’, the ASC Sink or Submerge Challenge, and a fascinating session with a space physicist exploring the science behind our universe.

The Congress provided our students with opportunities to work collaboratively, think creatively, test ideas and see how STEM is being applied in real world settings. Importantly, the event also highlighted the many different pathways available to Aboriginal students who are interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

It was fantastic to see our students getting involved, asking questions, having a go at new challenges and representing our school at such a great event.
