As part of our ongoing commitment to student and staff wellbeing, Gleeson College held a Sleep Awareness Day last Friday. Students and staff were invited to come to school dressed in their pyjamas to highlight the importance of healthy sleep habits and the vital role sleep plays in our health, wellbeing, learning and overall performance.

There were certainly plenty of comfortable and coordinated outfits across the campus, making for a fun and engaging day while promoting an important wellbeing message. 🌙😴

Gleeson College musicians, dancers and actors took centre stage last night at the Golden Grove Arts Centre for the Semester 1 Arts Evening. Performances included a duologue, a comedy act with special guest Principal Damien Judd, our Auslan Choir leading the Australian National Anthem, music from various ensembles and Rock Bands, as well as many fantastic dance routines. In the foyer, guests enjoyed an array of student art pieces. It was a true celebration of the creative arts, and an opportunity for our students to showcase their hard work and dedication in front of an appreciative audience of family, friends, and peers. 🎭🎶🎨

Today, our Year 11 Food & Hospitality: Industry students proudly hosted a High Tea in the impressive St James Centre kitchen facilities at Gleeson.

As part of their studies, students were responsible for planning and preparing a range of high tea menu items, with a focus on food quality, consistency, presentation, and professional hospitality service. They also drew on the barista skills they have developed throughout the semester to provide their guests with a welcoming experience.

The event was a wonderful success and provided students with valuable real-world hospitality experience. We thank our guests for their support and hope they enjoyed the hospitality and service provided by our talented Year 11 students.

In recognition of National Reconciliation Week, we welcomed Scott Darlow to Gleeson College. Scott is an Aboriginal singer-songwriter, public speaker, and educator from Yorta Yorta Country. Our Years 7-9 students had the privilege of listening to Scott's presentation as part of our focus on First Nations culture, history and reconciliation.

After school, our teaching staff engaged in a session with Scott which featured storytelling, music, and cultural perspectives centered on respect, understanding, and empathy. It was a pleasure to have Scott speak with our staff and share insights that support our ongoing commitment to reconciliation.

What an inspiring day at the annual One+ Careers Expo!

Gleeson Year 10 and 11 students had the amazing opportunity to connect with more than 50 exhibitors, including Registered Training Organisations, universities, and workplaces from an extensive range of industries.

From exploring exciting career pathways, to discovering further study options, to asking questions about future employment, our students soaked it all in and walked away feeling motivated and full of ideas for what's next.

Thank you to all the exhibitors who shared their time, knowledge, and passion with our students. The future is looking bright!

⭐️Throwback Thursday: Last term, we stopped by Year 7 Design & Technologies as students tackled the task of cooking delicious pancakes! A number of students were wearing their custom, handmade aprons, which they created as part of the textiles component of the subject. They did such a great job!
