🔧 A vessel is only as reliable as the machinery keeping it moving.

The MED 2 and MED 3 pathways develop the knowledge needed to understand marine engines, propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, maintenance and safe engine-room operations.

QMTS distance learning gives you time to work through the technical material at your own pace, while experienced maritime trainers are available 7 days a week when you need an explanation or a second look at a difficult topic.

MED 2 & MED 3: Know What Keeps the Vessel Moving ⚙️

🔧 If engines, machinery and vessel systems are where your interest lies, the MED pathway could be your next move.

A Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 certificate can allow you to work as chief engineer on vessels with an inboard engine under 500 kW, or an outboard engine of any propulsion power. MED 3 can also cover second-engineer duties on vessels under 750 kW.

Step up to MED 2 and the scope increases: chief engineer on vessels with inboard propulsion under 750 kW, second engineer on vessels under 1500 kW, and engine-room duties on vessels with propulsion under 3000 kW.

QMTS gives you flexible distance learning with experienced trainers available to help you understand the technical material—not just memorise it.

Coxswain Grade 1: Get Behind the Helm ⚓

🌊 Want to turn time on the water into a commercial maritime career?

The Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal pathway is a practical starting point for people who want real responsibility aboard smaller commercial vessels.

An AMSA Coxswain Grade 1 certificate can allow you to command and operate the engines of commercial vessels under 12 metres, including vessels with inboard propulsion under 500 kW or any outboard propulsion, subject to the permitted operating area. It can also allow you to act as chief mate or deck watchkeeper on vessels under 24 metres in inshore waters.

With QMTS Training you can study flexibly, access trainer support and build the knowledge you need without waiting for a traditional classroom intake.
