⭐ Intern Spotlight: Meet Hazel! ⭐

We asked our Natura Pacific intern, Hazel, to share some of the new skills and techniques she’s been developing during her fieldwork with us! 🔎

“Since starting my internship with Natura, I have had the opportunity to see the process of safely climbing and installing nest boxes, and learnt how to collect and record important field data for each nest box installation, including tree diameter at breast height (DBH), tree height, plant species, nest box type, and installation height.

Other fieldwork has included koala habitat vegetation surveys, where I was able to further develop my skills in estimating tree height, identifying tree species, and conducting w**d transect surveys. While I had been introduced to these techniques during the practical components of my university degree, I found it valuable to refine these skills and apply them in a real-world conservation setting.” - Hazel

As a Social Traders–certified social enterprise, Natura Pacific delivers environmental consulting services while reinvesting our profits into nature education, environmental outreach, and community programs.

We value the opportunity to learn from Mirvac’s team and to be supported in building our capability and scaling our social and environmental impact.

Thank you to Mirvac and Social Traders for the opportunity - we look forward to learning alongside such an inspiring cohort.

A $3 million opportunity, more than $1.1 million in new contracts and countless introductions and lessons learned.

These are just some of the outcomes from the 2026 Supplier Development Program cohort.

Over the past year, six certified social enterprises partnered with Social Traders and Mirvac to build business capability, grow confidence and better position themselves for opportunities with large buyers:

From building the confidence to negotiate with large buyers, to strengthening systems, compliance and pricing strategies, the latest cohort shared how mentoring, peer connections and practical business support helped transform the way they approach growth.

The partnership between Social Traders and Mirvac shows what can happen when organisations invest not just funding, but people, expertise and relationships to help social enterprises thrive.

The reflections are honest, practical and inspiring for any organisation or social enterprise looking to grow impact and capability.

Students in Action for Nature 🌱

Year 7 students from Yarrabilba State Secondary College participated in a tree planting day, facilitated by Natura Pacific consultants and procured by Stockland Yarrabilba 🌱

We all got our hands dirty while learning about local biodiversity and the important role native plants play in creating habitat for local wildlife. Students also explored ecosystem connections through an interactive food web activity featuring the rare Swordgrass Brown Butterfly and its host plant, Saw-sedge 🌾

It was great to see everyone so engaged, asking questions, working together, and making a real difference for nature.

A big shout out to our educators, Pat and Alecia, for putting together such a successful day and empowering the next generation to make a positive impact in their local community👏

It’s been a privilege working with TAFE Queensland, watching carpentry students build practical skills while providing homes for local wildlife 🌿🦜🪵

A big thank you to our environmental consultants who have been part of our TAFE Nest box collaboration project. From sourcing materials and designing species-specific nest boxes to installation and monitoring, this project has truly been a team effort!

Installing A Nest Box in 25 Seconds!🌳

Our environmental consultants — aka our climbing crews — are busy climbing up into the trees to install nest boxes for local wildlife.

Between August and September, our team successfully installed 130 nest boxes, providing valuable nests and shelters while supporting biodiversity and habitat restoration across the site.

⭐Intern Spotlight: Meet Hazel! ⭐

We asked our Natura Pacific intern, Hazel, to share her field work highlights and she had some pretty discoveries!

“I have had many highlights since starting my internship at Natura! One of my favourites was discovering these tiny, bright red creatures during a field day. They are called Red Velvet Mites, commonly known as Rain Bugs. I was instantly drawn to their vibrant colour, which is not often seen in nature, and their fluffy appearance created by the fine hairs covering their bodies giving them a soft, velvety texture. They often emerge to the surface of leaf litter in noticeable numbers right after it rains, hence their nickname of Rain Bugs!

Another highlight was a field day spent helping to install nest boxes built in partnership with TAFE Qld. By the end of the day we had successfully installed 16 nest boxes across the site!“ - Hazel

Bird of the Field: Scarlet Honeyeater🐦

At just around 10 cm long, this tiny bird is in fact one of Australia’s smallest honeyeaters!

Our environmental consultants, Saya and Kate, spotted this stunning male flitting quickly between trees during fieldwork.

His vivid scarlet-red plumage certainly made him stand out once we spotted him! ❤️🌿
