As a paramedic and a mum, I’m all about less is more. You don’t need a massive kit full of 100 things you’ll never use, can’t find in a hurry, and that quietly go out of date in the cupboard.

🩹 Low adherent dressings, band aids and gauze
🩹 Combine dressings
🩹 A triangular bandage (it’s so much more than a sling!)
💧 Saline to flush out wounds
✂️ Tweezers, bandage and tape

I always recommend to all my parents to take and save a video of your baby breathing normally, when they are healthy and well.

This will make a great reference to look back on when your child is unwell so you don’t have to guess if you’re ever concerned.

It is recommended to update this video every few months, as breathing patterns can change as your child grows.

Your kid goes down the slide and comes up holding their leg. What do you do next? 🛝

The right call: keep them still, don’t move the leg, and get help.
If it looks obviously broken, they can’t feel their toes, or the skin’s broken, call 000. If it’s safe to move them and you can get to the ER quickly yourself, you can also transport them privately, just keep the leg as still and supported as possible on the way.

What NOT to do: don’t try to straighten it, don’t let them walk on it, and don’t just “wait and see.”

My biggest piece of advice for new parents? Trust your gut!

10 years as a paramedic. Mum of two. And if there’s one thing I want every parent to hear, it’s this… you know your baby better than anyone else in the room, including the professionals.

Your instincts aren’t “overreacting.” They’re data. Lean on them.

This is why you don’t kiss babies!

That cold sore, that “little sniffle,” that kiss on the head… their tiny lungs can’t handle what yours shrugs off in a day.

At 4 months old, this baby ended up on oxygen. From RSV. From a virus that started as someone else’s “harmless” cold.

New babies don’t have the immune system to fight it off the way we do. What’s nothing to you can be everything to them.

So before you lean in for a kiss, ask yourself if you’d risk this.

She recovered. Thankfully. Not every baby does.
