Our kindergarten children have been busy exploring creativity through our recycled collage wall 🎨🌿
Using repurposed materials, the children engaged in a rich sensory painting experience—feeling different textures, experimenting with colour, and expressing their ideas in unique and meaningful ways. From smooth cardboard to rough natural elements, every touch invited curiosity and discovery.
This hands-on provocation not only supports fine motor development and creative expression, but also nurtures environmental awareness. By reusing everyday materials, children are learning the importance of sustainability and how small actions can help care for our planet 🌏
Creative play with a purpose—where imagination meets responsibility 💚

🏗️ Duplo City in Progress 🏙️
Over several days, children have been building, revisiting, and extending their Duplo city together. Guided by an emergent curriculum, their ideas shaped the project as they collaborated, shared materials, and planned new additions.
Through construction play, children strengthened problem-solving skills, spatial awareness, communication, and teamwork — while building a strong sense of belonging and pride in their shared creation.

🍋 Fresh from Nonna’s Orchard! 🍋
This week, we were lucky to receive freshly picked lemons straight from Nonna’s garden — and they became the inspiration for today’s sensory play in our Junior Kindy room.
The children explored the lemons through:
👃 Smelling the fresh citrus scent
👀 Observing the colours and textures
✋ Touching the bumpy skins and juicy insides
👅 Tasting the sour surprise!
Sensory experiences like this encourage children to use all five senses, building language as they describe what they see, smell, feel, and taste. They also develop curiosity, fine motor skills, and an early connection to nature’s seasonal gifts.
A big thank you to Nonna for sharing her orchard treasures — they brought joy, learning, and a burst of zest into our day! 🌿✨

🌱 Why We Play at AWCC 🌱
At Albert Waterways, we know that play is more than just fun – it’s how children learn best. Research shows it can take around 400 repetitions to create a new connection in the brain… unless it’s done through play. Then, it may only take 10 to 20 repetitions! ✨
Through play, children explore, experiment, and discover. They build confidence, problem-solving skills, and strong foundations for lifelong learning. 💡
This is why our days are filled with meaningful, playful experiences – because play truly is the work of childhood. 💛

🔬 Junior Kindy Celebrates Science Week! 🔍
Today, our Junior Kindy friends delved into hands-on Science Week fun!
Tamara created exciting play spaces designed to spark curiosity and introduce concepts such as heavy/light, tall/short, float/sink, and dense/porous.
🎨 At the art table, children compared the weight of heavy marble stamps and light balloons while painting.
💧 In our water area, we tested an assortment of objects to see which would float and which would sink.
📏 Using our brand-new blocks, we measured and compared our heights — discovering just how tall we’ve grown!
A day full of wonder, exploration, and “aha!” moments. 🌟
