ACTS Visa Skills Australian Construction Training Services (ACTS) is endorsed by Trades Recognition Australia (TRA)

As a Registered Training Organisation, ACTS and its consortia member Engineering Training Australia (ETA) conduct assessments in accordance with the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) for applicants seeking to have their skills and knowledge assessed towards a nationally recognised Australian trade qualification. ACTS provides authorised skills assessment services for the following TRA programs:

- Offshore Skills Assessment Program (OSAP)
- TSS Skills Assessment Program

Our services are customer focused where we support the Client or Agent throughout the process from application to technical and practical assessment through to completion. ACTS are able to provide Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for a large range of qualifications.

Thinking about an Australian trade skills assessment? It’s not just about what you know — it’s also about what you can do.
Australian trade assessments are designed to look at both your technical knowledge and practical ability to help confirm that your skills meet the standard expected in your nominated trade.
Assessors may look at things like your understanding of tools, materials, safety, work procedures and problem-solving, as well as how confidently you can apply those skills in real trade situations.
So when preparing for an assessment, don’t focus only on memorising answers. Be ready to explain your experience, how you approach tasks, why you use certain methods and how you work safely.

Before submitting, make sure you’ve checked:
✔️ Your employment details are clear and consistent
✔️ Your references explain the work you actually performed
✔️ Required documents are included
✔️ Your evidence supports the experience you’re claiming
✔️ Your Self-Assessment Questionnaire is completed where required

Technical drawings are a big part of cabinetmaking — and they can also play an important role in your Australian skills assessment.
A skilled cabinetmaker needs to do more than cut, assemble and install cabinetry. They also need to understand plans, dimensions, specifications and production information, then turn that information into accurate finished work.
For a Cabinetmaker skills assessment, that can mean demonstrating your ability to:
• read and interpret technical drawings
• work from dimensions and specifications
• prepare or use cutting lists
• calculate component sizes
• identify materials and hardware requirements
• connect workshop drawings with installation requirements
If you gained your experience overseas, the drawings and terminology you’re used to may look different from those commonly used in Australia — but what matters is whether you can demonstrate the underlying skills.

Competent tradespeople are also expected to understand how to:
• Identify hazards before starting work
• Use tools and equipment safely
• Report unsafe conditions
• Keep work areas clean and organised
• Manage manual handling risks
• Follow workplace procedures and site requirements
• Ask questions when something is unclear
For skilled migrants, this can be especially important when adapting to Australian workplaces, where safety procedures, terminology and expectations may differ from those used overseas.
Safety isn’t separate from trade competency — it’s part of it.
