A.B. Paterson College strongly believes in teaching our students about the importance of giving back to the community.

At yesterday's assembly, students were delighted to receive a special visit from Mr Clooney and Animal Welfare League Queensland representatives Billie, Kath and Kelly.

AWLQ honoured the College with a plaque recognising the ongoing support that our students and staff have shown for their organisation, in particular for the Golden Hearts program. This special program works to support senior animals at the shelter, and our choirs regularly perform at their events in support of this.

Thank you, AWLQ, for your visit and the incredible work you do! 🐶🫶

2023 has proven to be a busy year at the College gym!

The opening success of the Strength and Conditioning Program has been very rewarding and a big thank you goes to everyone who made it possible, particularly our coordinator, Mr Brad Lawton! Thank you to those who have stepped foot into the gym, completed physical tests, reported back for data collection and of course, to the parents who rise for early morning drop offs!

Term 4 saw the largest turn out yet, with gym visits increasing by 245% since Term 2 and more than 200 different students visiting for training💪

As a result, our students have become physically stronger and demonstrated an enhanced work ethic, with these improvements translating into greater performances on the field.

As the program continues to grow in 2024, we anticipate welcoming more faces into the gym and witnessing exciting new developments!

One of our long standing staff member's, Ms Sonya Earl, was honoured within our wider community last week for her outstanding contribution to South Coast Sport. Ms Earl received the School Sport South Coast Life Membership Award for 25 Years of service🏆

This is truly an outstanding achievement, and highlights Ms Earl's commitment, dedication and loyalty, qualities that she exhibits in everything she does each day at the college.

Ms Earl has served South Coast Sport in Touch in 1989, South Coast Swimming ((1996-1999, 2001-2008, 2012-2023) and as Queensland Swimming Manager (2002-2005, 2007-2008, 2016).

Congratulations, Ms Earl! We are all so very proud of you👏

At the recent valedictory ceremony, we experienced a heart warming full circle moment when the Year 1's took the stage to perform for the Class of 2023🎤

Many years ago when the graduated seniors were just in Year 1, they embarked on a special secret mission. With the guidance of Miss Newcombe, they wrote a song dedicated to the Class of 2012 to bid them farewell at graduation. The surprise performance left a lasting impression, and Miss Newcombe preserved the song on her shelf for the next twelve years, waiting for the day when those young Year 1's would become seniors.

Fast forward to their recent graduation in November, and it was time for the Year 1 students to perform for the Class of 2023. Well done to Year 1 for their incredible performance and making the day extra special! 👏🎓

Congratulations to Dr John Thomas who was recently awarded the prestigious 2023 Beverly and Jock McIllwain Award for Excellence in Stem Teaching🏆

Dr Thomas is an outstanding educator at the college, with a knack for teaching and explaining even the most difficult scientific concepts. He is renowned for bringing fun to the world of chemistry with his thrilling experiments and explosions, which have certainly got him into trouble over the years! 🧪

Beyond the classroom, Dr Thomas has embraced the digital age by setting up his own Youtube channel, "Dr T Does Chemistry." Here, he shares chemistry content in the senior syllabus and talks through how to approach assessment tasks.

Congratulations, Dr Thomas on this well-deserved achievement! 🎉👏

Students, staff and parents recently gathered for the College's 33rd Annual Speech Night. While it may have looked a little different this year, these gatherings provided an opportunity to formally acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding academic, sporting and cultural achievements of our students in Years 4 - 12.

Congratulations to this year's award recipients, including many of our recent graduates from the Class of 2023. Your dedication and efforts have truly paid off!
