A very proud day at Mainstay Sailing!

Yesterday, three of our students successfully passed their prestigious RYA Yachtmaster exams — an outstanding achievement and a testament to the hard work, preparation and determination they put in.

A huge congratulations to all three! We’re incredibly proud to have been part of their journey and wish them many exciting miles and adventures ahead.

600 litres of milk. Every day.

Did you know that a humpback whale mother can produce up to around 600 litres of milk a day for her calf?

And while she is raising her young, she may eat very little or nothing — relying on the energy reserves she built up in the Antarctic before making the long journey north to the warm waters of the Whitsundays.

Every year, these magnificent giants return to our waters to breed, give birth and raise their calves.

And there is something pretty special about being on a yacht when one decides to surface nearby.

We’ve just written about the whales of the Whitsundays in our latest Captain’s Log — their incredible migration, the bond between mother and calf, and what it’s like to experience these magnificent animals from the water.
