New Year - New Focus - Autism is a diagnosis it is not a disease. With early intervention the only limits are in not helping him/her become the best they can be.
April's Tip: Behaviour is shaped by consequences - do NOT give bad behaviour any attention instead always seek to reinforce any good behaviours because "a cup of honey will draw more flies than a bucket of gall."
Keep Your Expectations Realistic
It is important for you to know and understand your child’s abilities and limitations. When you expect too much or too little from your child it can lead to problems and frustrations for both of you. So above all be realistic!
Learn the three Fs to use with your school aged children -- I understand how you FEEL... I have FELT that too when.... I have FOUND that.... helps!

I needed the thinking bag last night when my website was lost in cyber space - pleased to report it is back! This has been a steep learning curve. makes you wonder what anxieties our children have at every milestone! It can be scary out there when things change!
Help your children read other people's emotions - happy, sad, angry, scared etc download pictures from Google images and ask them how they think the person is feeling. This will help them interact with others, empathise and emotionally self-regulate. Start with basics and build up - reading others is a life skill!
