Most "impossible" maths questions aren't harder. They're disguised.

In this video, JDN tutor Thomas shares one pattern students should check for first: if one part of an integral is the derivative of the other, the reverse chain rule usually solves it quickly.

It's a good reminder that exam confidence often comes from recognising patterns, not from being a "maths person."
if you're of Year 11 and 12, do you freeze up at questions that look unfamiliar?

Only 1 in 5 kids can pass this dinner test.
Ask your child to finish these sentences:
1️⃣ "He was scared, so..."
2️⃣ "He was scared, because..."

Most kids breeze through the first but freeze on the second. That pause? It’s the English gap. High school English is all about explaining, not just retelling.

Try it tonight and see which one stumps them. What did they say?

You taught your child to add a zero when multiplying by ten. But what happens when decimals show up? 🤔

Here’s the real rule: every digit shifts one place to the left.
Ask your child: What’s 3.4 x 10? What about 0.6 x 100?

ask your child one question tonight 👇

Don't just say well done after reading time. But also: why did she do that?

Reading out loud ≠ understanding. A child can sound fluent and still miss the meaning entirely.
Try it tonight. Tell us what your child said. 💬

10 out of 10 on Friday. Same word wrong three weeks later.

Your child didn't forget it, but what they learnt is how to hold ten words for one night. which is a real skill, it's just not spelling.

The fix isn't more testing. Same ten words, five sentences about their weekend. Done.

Try one old word tonight and let us know in the comments what happened. 👇

Tonight, when your child finishes reading to you, here's a good challenge to dig deeper on their understanding!
Some kids answer straight away. Some go quiet, then retell the whole story from the beginning.

Reading out loud and understanding are two different skills. A child can be excellent at the first while doing very little of the second. It sounds fluent, so nobody in the room hears a problem.

This misunderstanding is invisible while the sums are simple. Then Year 7 arrives and algebra expects them to balance equations, and suddenly they're "bad at maths."

Try the question tonight. It takes ten seconds.

Great at trigonometry, but hopeless at algebra, same person btw. Which subject have you written yourself off in?

when your baby boomer tutor said 'no cap' with her whole chest and we haven't recovered 😭

the universe's cruellest sense of humour: finally getting it, but 20 minutes before the exam 😭
