BBESA recently hosted the RICS & BBESA Networking and Insights Evening, bringing together students and industry professionals to explore career pathways in the built environment.
A big thank you to RICS, and to our guest speakers Bianca Delkou, Craig MacDonald FRICS, and Sandra Sear AssocRICS, for sharing their time, knowledge, and professional experience with our students.
During the event, Bianca introduced RICS student membership and professional pathways, Craig shared insights into the work of a building consultant through real project examples, and Sandra provided an overview of building certification and regulatory frameworks across Australia.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of building safety and professional responsibility, including reflections on the Grenfell Tower fire, which many students have encountered in courses such as Building Services and Fire Engineering. These conversations helped students better understand how the concepts they study in class are applied in professional practice.
Thank you again to everyone who participated and helped make this event a success.

BBESA recently had the pleasure of hosting Dr Chris Knapp, Research Director at Building 4.0 CRC, for our Modular Construction Insight Sharing session at Bond University.
A big thank you to Chris for delivering such an insightful and inspiring presentation to our student community.
Chris provided a comprehensive introduction to modular construction, bringing us a new key concept — Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) — and explaining how these approaches are reshaping project delivery in the built environment.
The session also explored Industry 4.0 and how emerging technologies are beginning to transform the construction sector. With the current workforce shortages in the Australian construction industry, prefabrication and offsite construction are increasingly being adopted to improve productivity and address labour constraints.
Chris also highlighted both the opportunities and limitations of prefabrication, including regulatory challenges across different Australian states that can make it difficult for modular products to be manufactured in one location and deployed in another.
Thank you again to Chris for sharing his expertise and supporting our students in gaining a deeper understanding of the future of construction.

✨ What a night! ✨
Huge thanks to our amazing speaker Bojana Zivec, Senior Project Manager at RP Infrastructure, for bringing us From Site to Strategy!
She reminded us that technical skills get you noticed, but your values and mindset keep you promoted.
We all have our “technical systems” — AI, workflows, frameworks — but never forget the human operating system: empathy, curiosity, and integrity.
And the best quote of the night:
“If you can laugh, you can breathe. If you can breathe, you can lead.”
Such a warm and inspiring evening — best speaker, best audience!
