Located in the heart of the Gold Coast, Somerset College is one of Australia's leading independent Primary and Secondary education providers.

From humble beginnings in 1983, Somerset College has achieved a much esteemed position in education. The success of its students and staff in academic, pastoral, cultural, physical and spiritual domains has flowed from a tangible commitment to excellence and collaboration. One only need visit the beautiful campus, speak with members of our community and, especially, observe the vibrancy and joy of our students to know that there is something special happening. A triangular approach is facilitated through the focus of staff, parents and students on enhancing student outcomes. The co-educational, multi-age mix of students enables a natural progression from external to self discipline. Our students graduate confident in their own abilities and resilient enough to accept the inevitable challenges that life will provide. The College believes unashamedly in high standards and personal responsibility. Equally our many service programmes provide opportunities for compassion and empathy. After all, “to whom much is given; much is expected”. This initial journey of discovery, for Somerset graduates have only begun their learning, is conducted through a supportive yet challenging set of experiences. Loud Shirt Day returns to Somerset College on Friday 16 October.

Junior School students (Pre-Prep to Year 6) are invited to wear their brightest, boldest and most colourful shirt to help raise awareness of hearing loss and support programs that make a meaningful difference for children and families.

Cambodia has given our students far more than memories.

This holiday, students were immersed in the history, culture and spirit of a remarkable country as part of our inaugural With Cambodia trip. From the confronting lessons of S-21 and the Killing Fields to the awe-inspiring beauty of Angkor Wat, they developed a deeper understanding of Cambodia's past and the resilience of its people.

They also had the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution, working alongside the Raw Impact team and local communities to help build a school, roads and homes in the Every Piece Matters Village in Phnom Penh, while supporting ongoing development projects on Trong Island in Kratie.

Perhaps most importantly, students learnt lessons that cannot be taught in a classroom. They gained perspective, developed empathy, formed stronger friendships and discovered what can be achieved when people come together with a shared purpose.

The students were exceptional throughout the trip. They embraced every challenge, approached every experience with respect and curiosity and represented our College with pride. We are grateful to Raw Impact and the Cambodian communities who welcomed us so warmly and taught us so much.

This was more than a trip. It was an experience that changed lives.

Today we welcome our students, families and staff back to Somerset College for the final term of the school year.

Term 4 is one of the most rewarding times on the College calendar. It is a time of celebration, where we reflect on the many achievements, performances, events, service initiatives, learning milestones and sporting successes that have shaped the year across our community.

We look forward to seeing our students embrace the opportunities that Term 4 brings and finish the year with purpose, pride and determination.

Congratulations to Sofie on a wonderful achievement at the recent Gold Coast Eisteddfod.

Competing in the Woodwind/Brass Championship, she delivered an impressive performance to place second in the event.

Champion School at the Gold Coast Debating Grand Finals! 🏆

Somerset’s debaters delivered an outstanding performance at the Gold Coast Debating Grand Finals, with 13 of our 16 teams progressing to the Finals Rounds and Somerset once again named Champion School!

Term 3 finished on a high with Purple Faces 2026!

On the final day of term, more than 50 performers from Years 6 to 12 took to the stage, showcasing an incredible variety of talent through singing, dancing, acting, instrumental performances and bands.

The evening was a wonderful celebration of our students’ creativity and courage, made possible by the student volunteers, teachers, staff and Performing Arts team who worked behind the scenes to bring it all together.

Congratulations to every student who performed, volunteered and contributed to making Purple Faces 2026 such a memorable way to wrap up Term 3!

Congratulations to Mia (Year 11) and Ava (Year 9) on their outstanding achievements in the English-Speaking Union Public Speaking Competition! 🎤

Competing alongside talented students from across Queensland, both students progressed through the competition to be named among just eight Grand Finalists in their respective divisions.

Mia represented Somerset in the Senior Division, while Ava competed in the Intermediate Division, with both demonstrating impressive confidence, composure and communication skills throughout the competition.

A wonderful achievement and testament to the dedication both students have shown in developing their voices as young speakers. Congratulations, Mia and Ava! 👏

♟️ Back-to-back Gold Coast Champions!

Somerset has claimed the 2026 Gold Coast Primary Chess Finals title, securing back-to-back victories for the first time in around a decade.

Congratulations to William, Paul, Gabriel and Marcus on an outstanding team performance, with Gabriel and Marcus also claiming individual board prizes.
Somerset was also proudly represented by Sohan, Theo, Ethan and Sofie in our second team, with both teams earning qualification for the Queensland Interschool State Finals in Brisbane this October.

A fantastic achievement that reflects the hard work, focus and commitment of our players and coaches throughout the year.

Congratulations to all involved, including coaches Doug and Russell. We wish both teams all the best at the State Finals! 👏

Synergies Twilight Viewing ✨

The Great Hall was transformed into an impressive showcase of student creativity and innovation for this year’s Synergies Twilight Viewing.

Families, staff and students explored works across Design, Engineering, Digital, Film, Media and Visual Arts, experiencing the incredible ideas, skills and creativity of our students firsthand.

It was wonderful to see so many members of our community come together to celebrate the hard work and talent behind each piece.

At Parliament House last week, the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland presented Service Captain, Will, a Secondary Schools Citizenship Award from The Order of Australia Association, Queensland Branch. Will was one of thirteen Senior students from around Queensland to be acknowledged for working and walking alongside others whom he serves. Performing Arts Captain, Lexi and College Vice-Captain, Savannah joined Will to collect their Certificate of Community Service. Congratulations Will, Lexi and Savannah! 💙
