How long should my baby sleep for?

One of our busiest times of the day is after school pick up! It is honestly non-stop with C training or appointments.

I am someone who thrives on a routine so having a plan in place really helps.

We always look at what can be prepared the night before to reduce morning stress and create a calmer start to the day.

Heres what I do to stay on track 👇🏼

🎒 I always empty the boys school bags once we are home.

✏️ Check in with my eldest about homework

🥦 I usually have an idea of what we will be having for dinner and if it's a training night for my youngest I ensure it's either prepped betore we leave or something quick that can be cooked once we are home. (normally when it's cooking I utilise this time doing something else

🍎I love the school tuck shop fe and will order 2-3 times a week. If I'm doing lunch boxes they are prepped the night before. (this makes lite so much easier)

🚿 My youngest has a shower 1 hour before bed and spends the last hour winding down.

⏰ Bedtime is 8.00-8.15 pm for my youngest and I like him asleep by 8.30 pm.

👔 Uniforms are always ready to go.

🍽️ The dishwasher is always put on before bedrime and it gets emptied in the morning.

🛋️ The cushions are always plumped back up and a little house reset because I love to start the morning with a tidy mind!

A routine alone won't help magically fix any sleep issues but it definitely helps your little ones to understand that bedtime is approaching. I literally won't sit down until I am happy that everything is done!

That being said I will bend the rules when the weekend comes around, Friday night in our house is always take-away night and a later bedtime for my boys.

Do what works for you and your family!

The transition from a bassinet to cot usually happens around the 4-month mark. If the bassinet is restricting your little ones movement or they have started to roll it is no longer safe to continue using it.

Some bassinets will have weight and height restrictions indicating when to make the transition.

Things to consider when moving from a bassinet to the cot 👇

* Ensure the new sleep environment is safe and familiar. You could use the same sheets from your little ones bassinet which will have a scent that they are familiar with.

* Ensure the cot and mattress meet the safety standards for the country you reside in. It's Rednose here in Australia.

* Old and second hand cots could be outdated and no longer meet safety standards.

* Do not use any cot bumpers or pillows.

* Ensure any loose blankets are tucked securely, alternatively use a safe baby sleeping bag.

* Keep the cot free of any mobiles, soft toys etc.

* Sleep your little one on their back. (Regardless of whether they are rolling) feet should be at the bottom/end of the cot, this ensures they can't wriggle down under the covers (if using one)

* Continue to sleep your baby in the cot in your room for the first 6-12 months.

* To ease the transition some parents do it cold turkey while others choose to start off with naps in the cot and do a full changeover 3-5 days later.

Happy Monday guys. We are onto another week!

Monday is my reset day, l've realised I function so much better when I start the week feeling prepared instead of playing catch up.

Running 2 businesses while raising our boys means finding systems that work for our family and this little Monday rhythm works for us.

Monday for me is always about getting the boys to school followed by a big sigh of relief once achieving this task 😂 beach walk or a visit to the gym, checking emails and messages, restocking the fridge, and a quick house reset. I always sit down in front of my diary and plan for the next few weeks. Simple things like this make my mind feel clearer and calmer.

Because behind being a sleep consultant I am a Mum just like you. 🥰

What systems do you have in place that help you as a family?
