VARSITY FAMILIES GIVING BACK | OCTOBER 2026

This October, our little community is coming together to make a BIG difference!

We are so excited to announce that Goodstart Early Learning Varsity Lakes is proudly partnering with Baby Give Back to help support local babies, children and families experiencing hardship.

As part of our Varsity Families Giving Back initiative, we’re inviting our families and wider community to get involved and spread a little kindness!

Calling all our creative families!

Some of their most-needed items include:

Handmade small teddies and comforters
Knitted and sewn children’s clothing (0–2 years)
Knitted blankets and small quilts
Bibs and face washers
Drawstring bags
Reusable breast pads
Change mats and nappy wallets

We’re also collecting new and preloved children’s clothing, nappies and wipes!

Please see the attached posters for specific sizes, measurements and safety requirements for handmade donations.

Everyone is welcome to get involved! You don’t need to attend our centre to contribute. Our collection point is open to our entire Varsity Lakes community throughout October.

Through this initiative, we hope to show our little learners that kindness, generosity and helping others can make a difference, no matter how big or small the gesture.

Donations can be dropped off at Goodstart Early Learning Varsity Lakes throughout October.

🐣 Our Littlest New Arrivals 🐣

There’s been a whole lot of excitement at our centre with our Henny Penny chickens! From patiently watching and waiting, to finally meeting and gently caring for our beautiful baby chicks, the children have loved every moment of this special experience. 🤍

These little chicks have sparked so much curiosity, wonder and conversation, giving the children a hands-on opportunity to learn about life cycles, caring for living things and the natural world around them. Safe to say, our newest little friends have already stolen plenty of hearts! 🐥✨

What is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding is so much more than keeping children physically safe. 🤍

It’s about creating an environment where every child feels safe, secure, heard, respected and protected. From the way we supervise and communicate, to how we respond to children’s voices, recognise concerns and create safe everyday practices — safeguarding is embedded in everything we do.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing our Safety & Safeguarding Series, giving our families a closer look at what safeguarding means in early childhood and some of the ways we put it into practice each and every day.

Because keeping children safe isn’t just a policy — it’s everyone’s responsibility. 🫶🏼

When the children have an idea, we make sure they’re heard.

What started with a simple love of reading on our walks around Lake Orr has turned into something pretty special.

Our Toddlers and Senior Toddlers had a BIG idea, a Little Library where they, their friends and the wider community could stop, share and enjoy books together. So today, we took their idea straight to our local MP’s office!

Our little learners sat in their very own meeting and helped share their vision…

This is what it looks like when we truly value children as capable, confident members of their community. Their ideas matter. Their voices matter. And sometimes, the smallest voices can inspire the biggest changes.

📚🤍 HELP OUR LITTLE FRIENDS ACHIEVE A BIG GOAL! 🤍📚

Reading has always been a BIG interest for our little friends, and we love finding new ways to support and extend this interest in their learning.

Our community walks are also a much-loved part of our week, and one of our favourite places to stop is the concrete area by Lake Orr. We love bringing along our favourite books, sitting together and enjoying a story in the sunshine. 📖🌿

So… our little friends have a BIG idea!

We would LOVE to see a permanent community book box installed near Lake Orr, filled with children’s books for not only our little friends to enjoy on their walks, but for the whole community. We would even love to contribute some of our own pre-loved books to help fill it! 🥹📚

We always pass friendly faces enjoying this beautiful space, and we think a little book box could create even more opportunities for children and families to stop, connect, read and learn together.

Now we need YOUR help to get this idea into the right hands! 🫶🏼

“We’re going on a bear hunt, we’re going to catch a big one…” 🐻🌿

Our Senior Toddlers have brought one of their favourite stories to life! 📖✨ Together, the children created their very own little theatre, while their wonderful educators extended their love of books by creating pop-stick characters from some of their favourite stories.

Then it was showtime! 🎭 One of our Senior Toddlers took centre stage and did an amazing job using the characters to recreate and retell We’re Going on a Bear Hunt in his own way. 🥹🐻

Story retelling is such a valuable learning experience, supporting language development, memory, sequencing, imagination and confidence. It also connects beautifully with EYLF Outcome 5 – Children are effective communicators, as children engage with stories, express ideas and begin to recreate texts through play.

A beautiful example of what can happen when educators notice a child’s interests and give them the tools to take their learning even further. 💛

Creating a safe sleep environment is one of the many ways we care for children each day. From following safe sleep practices and using approved cots, to completing visual checks every 5 minutes, our educators take every step to help children rest safely and comfortably.

We also work closely with families to understand each child's individual sleep routine, because feeling safe, settled and well-rested helps children learn, grow and thrive.

💜 Safe sleep is everyone's responsibility, and it's always a priority.

Splish, splash, sail! 💦🚤

Our little learners soaked up the sunshine today while exploring our bubbly blue boat sensory experience! ☀️🫧 From scooping and splashing to floating and navigating their boats through the water, the children were busy experimenting, discovering and, most importantly, having FUN!

Water play is more than just a splash — it encourages sensory exploration, fine motor development, hand-eye coordination and early understandings of cause and effect, all while providing opportunities to play and learn alongside friends. 💙

A beautiful example of EYLF Outcome 4 – Children are confident and involved learners, as the children used curiosity, experimentation and play to investigate the world around them.
