‘SHOW WITHOUT SAYING’
One of our favourite exercises in class at the moment, for all our age groups, is “Show Without Saying.”
The challenge? No dialogue. No explaining. No telling us what you’re feeling.
Students are given an emotion… and then, without warning, another is called, and then another…and so on!!
Happy. Angry. Nervous. Excited. Sad. Confident. Confused. Frustrated... etc
And they have to switch.
Not just pretend to feel something different, but explore what happens in their body, their face, their eyes, their breath and their energy when the emotion changes.
And the really valuable part comes afterwards…🎥 We watch the playback.
Because sometimes what you think you’re showing isn’t actually what the camera is seeing…That playback is invaluable. It teaches them to observe themselves, make adjustments and discover how subtle, or sometimes how BIG an emotional shift needs to be on camera…
