Really not sure what to make of this. Am I being ripped off?
In another life I wrote six cookbooks that to my disbelief sold 6 million copies worldwide. When I say disbelief I mean that. I left that life to move on to what I thought was a more serious career and later to follow my passion, baking and cake decorating. My books were published in the late 1980s and early 1990s (yes I'm ancient). The copyrite for them all is registered under my name.
Just for the fun of it today I googled Joan McDermott's Microwave Cookbooks. I was gobsmacked to find 2,640,000 results. That was lovely to see. It was also lovely to see so many of my books still being republished today. Read on!
What wasn't lovely to see was that some of the books had been republished without my approval or knowledge. Where are my royalties!!!!!
I guess I should take it as a compliment but I'm really not sure what I should make of a book that was originally published and sold for A$6.95 (they were priced to compete against the old Woman's Weekly cookbooks) are being sold for crazy prices. I found photocopies of one of my books being sold for US$109. Is this crazy or what?
On a positive note it was lovely to see my Ultimate Book of Microwave Hints classified in the US and by the Australian National Library as a "national treasurer". If you want to see or read any of my books they are still available through the Australian National Library to read at NO COST! At least that's great to see.
Do you think I should reinvent myself and start writing books about what I love today, everything sweet.
Again. Where are my royalties please!!!!
