Happy National Science Week! 🚀

What an incredible week of curiosity, experimentation, and discovery we've had! Here is a snapshot of what our students have been up to:

🚀 Pressure Rocket PC Challenge: High-flying action across both Junior and Senior Secondary as students tested their engineering and physics skills.
🍿 Science Movie Event: A packed lecture theatre full of eager learners enjoying a sci-fi screen night.
💎 Crystal Growing: Hands-on chemistry bringing science to life as students cultivated stunning crystal structures.
🔍 Primary Scavenger Hunt: Our youngest scientists explored the Primary campus on a quest to solve science mysteries!

A massive thank you to our Science Ambassadors, Issi, Amy, and Ivana, for their leadership, fresh ideas, and hard work in organising such a great lineup of events.

And, as always, a huge shoutout to our outstanding Lab Technicians, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. White, and Mr. Chadwick—for their endless patience, time, and behind-the-scenes magic that makes weeks like this possible! 🧪✨

Recently in Junior Secondary, we celebrated our Semester One Academic Award winners and our recipients of College colours.
Year 9 students, Rina L, Lucy L, Audrey M and Arysha A were also awarded Scholar’s ties in recognition of their consistent Academic achievement and endeavour.

The children in PrePrep 1 have been exploring a variety of traditional fairy tales, developing a growing interest and curiosity in the stories, characters, and imaginative worlds they offer. To extend this interest, we created a small-world learning environment filled with props and resources to encourage the children to engage in imaginative and collaborative play.

This week, the children chose The Three Little Pigs as their focus fairy tale. They used props they had created themselves, including houses made from straw, sticks, and bricks, alongside character masks to recreate and retell the story. The children eagerly embraced the roles of the three little pigs and the wolf, using different voices, expressions, and tones to bring their characters to life.

Through these engaging play-based experiences, the children are developing their early literacy and numeracy skills in meaningful and purposeful ways. They carefully listened to the story before having opportunities to retell it alongside their friends. Retelling stories supports children to express their ideas, recall and sequence events, develop vocabulary, and build confidence when communicating with others.

The children also explored concepts such as counting, comparing, and sequencing as they interacted with the different props and recreated key events from the story. Most importantly, these hands-on experiences encouraged creativity, imagination and collaboration while strengthening relationships and supporting children to learn through play.

Through their exploration of The Three Little Pigs, the children are developing a deeper understanding of fairy-tale structure, characters and storytelling while confidently sharing their ideas, engaging with their peers and, most importantly, having fun together.

As this year’s Drama Fest approaches, we’re taking a trip back to 2022! ✨ From memorable performances to incredible creativity on stage, Drama Fest has always been a chance for our students to shine. We can't wait to see what this year's cast and crew have in store!

Some of our lucky senior Physics students enjoyed an incredible day of academic enrichment at the Pacific Airshow’s ‘Students with Altitude’ experience!

Highlights included exploring cutting-edge aerospace tech and VR in the NXTGN STEM Lab, as well as seeing real-world aerodynamic forces brought to life through world-class aerial displays. The standout moment was hearing directly from Katherine Bennell-Pegg, Australia’s first female astronaut and 2026 Australian of the Year, about her training and pathways into space science.

It was an invaluable opportunity to extend classroom learning and inspire our next generation of female engineers and scientists to reach for the stars!

Our students have achieved outstanding results at the 45th Gold Coast Languages Speech Contest, earning 3 Gold, 7 Silver and 5 Bronze medals, along with several Highly Commended awards across Years 4 to 10.

These achievements are a reflection of the dedication, confidence and perseverance of our students, who represented the College with enthusiasm and pride.

A special thank you to Bridie D, Mia W, as well as our Year 12 students Cathy F, Robert S and Sia B for their support in helping more than 40 students throughout the competition. We are especially grateful to Bridie and Mia for the many hours spent running co-curricular sessions and tutorials, providing students with opportunities to practise, grow in confidence and achieve their best.

These achievements are a wonderful reflection of the dedication, confidence and hard work of our students. They have represented our College with enthusiasm and pride, and we are extremely proud of every student who took part.

Following nine hard-fought games in the Queensland School Futsal League, our Year 7 & 8 Girls Futsal team have been crowned Premiers of the Southern Conference!

Their success has secured qualification for the Regional Championships in Term 4, where they will compete among the top eight schools in South East Queensland.

Congratulations to the team and coaches on this fantastic achievement. We are incredibly proud of your dedication, sportsmanship, and teamwork. 💙🏆

Congratulations to Amy and Lucy on their selection into KFC T20 Max squads for the upcoming three-week competition. This prestigious pre-season tournament features Queensland Premier Cricket clubs bolstered by marquee interstate and WBBL talent. Selection at this level is a fantastic reflection of both girls' dedication and skill.

Our Year 11 Modern History students recently welcomed Peter Lawrence from Black Cockatoo Consulting for a special incursion exploring the Indigenous Rights Movement in Australia.

Peter is a proud Yugarapul man with connections to Rosewood Scrub and Kabi Kabi Country, as well as a published historian, teacher and presenter. Drawing on his cultural knowledge and historical expertise, Peter worked with students to deepen their understanding of First Nations perspectives, experiences and resistance. He also encouraged students to consider how Indigenous voices and historical evidence can shape our interpretation of Australia’s past.

We sincerely thank Peter for sharing his knowledge and providing our students with such an engaging and valuable learning experience.

The Music Department would like to congratulate our wonderful and accomplished solo musicians following the recent Junior and Senior Music Excellence Competitions, held in the IGC. Audiences were treated to an incredible showcase of musical talent, with students performing an exciting and diverse range of repertoire spanning classical, pop, rock, jazz, country and everything in between. The standard of musicianship on display was truly exceptional, with students demonstrating not only technical skill, but also confidence, expression, individuality and a genuine passion for their music.

The outstanding quality of performances made the task particularly difficult for our external adjudicators, Denise Collins and Helen Little, who had the challenging responsibility of selecting the successful performers from such a talented field.

We are incredibly proud of every student who took to the stage. Performing as a soloist takes courage, preparation and commitment, and each student should be proud of the way they represented themselves and our Music Department. A huge congratulations to all of our performers, and a very special thank you to our adjudicators, staff, families and audiences for helping make these competitions such a wonderful celebration of music at our College.
