Upcoming QAGTC Parent Meeting
Wednesday 27th April 12PM (1 hour)
This week we are fortunate to have Carol Barnes who will lead our disucssion about Gifted Learners with a Disability (GLD). As Carol mentioned during our last meeting, it is important to join in the discussion even if your child may not have an identified disability. This is because a child's giftedness can mask challenges, which are identified in later childhood/adolescence. We would also enjoy seeing you all there!
The meeting will commence at 12pm and conclude at 1pm, and the link and password for the meeting are below:

“Gifted children have quite different learning needs. They learn often a lot faster, they think often a lot more deeply or a lot more conceptually about things, and so their pace of learning is faster.”
Are schools failing gifted and twice-exceptional students? For profoundly gifted children school should be a breeze - instead, they're more likely to be bored and disengaged from school and socially isolated, resulting in lifelong implications. Parents say the education system has a serious design flaw and are calling for an overhaul, but with chronic teacher shortages and overworked staff is that plausible?

"Cerian Brondum began to suspect there was something special about her son Griff when he was four, and he taught himself long division. Even then, she wasn’t sure it was out of the ordinary - maybe other kids did complex maths at preschool, too."
Griff Brondum, a maths whiz, is the state’s youngest HSC student.
At 4, Griff was doing long division. At 13, he’s ready for the HSC Griff Brondum heads back to school on Monday with his year 12 peers - who once thought he was in detention rather than a member of their class. He is the youngest student sitting this year’s HSC.
