Trainer tip: Watch for dips.

Award-winning trainer Tom Fraser says one of the most important skills a trainer can develop is reading the room. Energy naturally rises and falls throughout a session, and it's easy to miss the signs if you're focused only on getting through your content.

A quick break to reoxygenate and re-energise, even five minutes, can completely reset attention levels and make everything that follows land better. Watching for those dips, and acting on them, is a small habit that makes a big difference to how much learners actually take in.

What are some tips you use to breathe life back into delivery sessions?

Did you know that 94% of our June student survey respondents said they'd recommend Plenty to family or friends.

Numbers like this don't happen by accident, they're the result of great trainers, real support, and students who show up ready to learn. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share feedback!

Get to know one of our award-winning trainers!

Plenty trainer Tom Fraser recently took home the Excellence in Online Training Delivery Award at the 2026 VET Conference Awards, nominated by his own students. But when we sat down with him, he wanted to talk about what it confirmed.

Tom's philosophy is simple: every session should be 1% better than the last. In our latest interview, he shares how that mindset shapes everything from how he reads a room he can't see, to why he treats learners as a "team" rather than a class, to the moment in Papua New Guinea that reminded him exactly why he does this work.

It's a great read for anyone who's ever sat through a forgettable online course and wondered what training could be instead.

Trainer tip: Use the tools you have.

An online delivery room isn't a classroom, and it shouldn't be treated like one. Trying to replicate an in-person session online usually falls flat. Both formats have their own strengths and weaknesses: in-person gives you body language and energy in the room, while online gives you breakout rooms, polls, chat and screen sharing at your fingertips.

The best trainers don't fight the format, they lean into what each platform does well and design their delivery around it.

What are some online tools that you're currently using for training?

"I had two trainers during my training at Plenty Training and my experience with both of them was exceptional."

Great trainers do more than deliver content.

They guide discussions, challenge thinking, and help learners build confidence in their skills.

When trainers bring real industry experience and genuine care for their students, the entire learning experience changes.

The right trainer can make learning both challenging and incredibly rewarding.

What's a quality that you believe makes a great trainer?

As a trainer devoted to ongoing learning, it's important to sit back and reflect on your own practise and techniques at times. So today, imagine your class needs to be split and one learner has to move.

Who would you choose and why?
1. The enthusiastic learner who asks lots of questions.
2. The quiet learner who does not engage.
3. Or the learner who is always late.

Each learner needs something different.

Which learner would you choose and how could you assist each student?

"I believe the student support team is doing a great job. They reply very quickly. I have even received responses within just 30 minutes which I really appreciate."

Self paced learning gives people flexibility.

But flexibility only works when support is there when you need it.

Fast responses, helpful trainers, and a team that actually cares about your progress can make a huge difference to the learning experience.

Great training is not just about the content.

It is about the people supporting you through it.

What is the most helpful support you have ever received during a course?

We are so proud to share this with our community. πŸ†

At the Australian VET Conference Awards 2026, held in Sydney on 12 March, Plenty Training was recognised across three categories.

πŸ₯‡ WINNER β€” Excellence in Online Training Delivery | Tom Fraser
🌟 FINALIST β€” VET Trainer of the Year | David Murray & Tom Fraser
🌟 FINALIST β€” RTO of the Year | Plenty Training

We are incredibly grateful.

To be recognised at this level across our delivery, our trainers, and our organisation as a whole is something our entire team will carry with pride.

But what moves us most is this: David and Tom weren't nominated by management. They were nominated by their own learners. That kind of acknowledgement can't be manufactured. It comes from consistently showing up, caring deeply, and creating an environment where people feel supported enough to succeed.

To our whole team: the trainers, the support staff, everyone behind the scenes, this belongs to you.

And to every learner who has trusted us with their journey: thank you. You are the reason that we do what we do.
