⚠️ PREPARE TO TAKE SHELTER ⚠️
Issued 4:15pm Thursday 6 March.

We advise people on the Gold Coast to PREPARE TO TAKE SHELTER tonight.

Tropical Cyclone Alfred is moving towards the Queensland coast. Weather is getting worse.

Expect destructive winds, dangerous storm tides and significant flooding. A storm surge will occur tonight. It may exceed the highest tide of the year by over a metre.

‼️ Everyone should take shelter at home or in a safer place tonight.

What you need to do:

πŸ—Ί Check the Disaster Flood Risk Map and stay up-to-date with the latest information dashboard.cityofgoldcoast.com.au. If you are in a risk area, decide now where you will take shelter.

🏠 During the cyclone stay in the strongest and safest room in the building you are in. This will be away from big windows. It could be a bathroom, walk-in wardrobe or hallway. Shelter here when the tropical cyclone comes.

If you do not feel safe in your home, ensure you are in a safer place tonight, ideally with family and friends. Evacuation Centres should be a last resort.

Evacuation centre locations:
πŸ“ Runaway Bay Indoor Sports Centre (Sports Drive, Runaway Bay)
πŸ“ Burleigh Waters Community Centre (111 Christine Avenue, Burleigh Waters)
πŸ“ Pimpama Sports Hub (139 Rifle Range Rd, Pimpama)
