Using MyFitnessPal to track your food? Make sure you know these 5 things.
If you’ve never tracked before, you probably don’t know how much you’re actually eating.
Most of us underestimate our intake because the oil in the pan, the milk in your coffee and the bits you pick at while cooking just don’t feel like “eating.”
Tracking swaps the guesswork for real numbers.
The catch? It’s only as accurate as what you put into the app.
Don’t use the macro target MFP gives you. Your coach prescribes your numbers, so head into your Goals and adjust your macros to match.
Don’t let MFP add your exercise calories back. Burning 400 calories doesn’t mean you’ve got 400 extra to eat. Turn off exercise calorie adjustments so your target stays consistent.
Scanning a barcode doesn’t mean it’s correct.
Always cross check the calories, macros and serving size against the nutrition label.
Raw vs cooked, serving sizes and the little things all matter. Make sure your entry matches how you weighed your food, check how many serves are actually in the packet, and track the oils, sauces and spreads too.
Check what you’re actually tracking. The right units, the right brand and the edible portion only (no banana peels on the scales).
Bonus tip: for whole foods, search the food name followed by NUTTAB for reliable Australian nutrition data.
This isn’t about being perfect or stressing over every gram. It’s about having accurate info so the effort you’re already putting in actually shows.
Save this for next time you log.
