Looking back at some of the standout moments from the 2026 BUFTA Competition, we are shining the spotlight on Thomas Birkett from The Hutchins School (TAS) for his music video ‘Walk In Your Shoes’ 👟 🏆

Selected by a panel of industry professionals, the Jury Prize celebrates a young filmmaker who shows outstanding potential in the screen industry. As part of the award Thomas received a 25% scholarship to study a Bachelor of Film and Television at Bond.

"Receiving the Jury Prize scholarship to study at Bond has been an amazing opportunity. It gave me the chance to move from Tasmania to the Gold Coast and pursue my passion for filmmaking. The degree has exceeded my expectations, with passionate lecturers, industry-focused learning, and a collaborative community that's helped me continue developing as a filmmaker."

Thomas is now nearly two whole semesters into his degree at Bond, and we can’t wait to see what he does next!

Ever wondered what it’s like to study Film and Television at Bond University?

Beyond the classroom, our degree pushes courage and creativity like no other.

Bondy Jamali van Heerden discovered just how far that courage can take you. Jamali was with Bond at a Gold Coast Film Festival event when Cyclone Alfred caused the lead actor for his short film to pull out. As if by fate, he was in the perfect room. He took a chance and asked actor Lincoln Lewis if he would step into the role. A week later, Lincoln called to say yes!

The People’s Choice Award is a fan-favourite category where audiences have their say, voting for their standout film from BUFTA. Last year, we had 2,617 votes cast, with Jaime Del Castillo Parejo from Varsity College (QLD) taking out the majority for his Documentary, 'The Great Balloon in the Sky’! 🎥🏆

A huge congratulations to Jaime on this well-deserved recognition! 👏
